Fantasy Player's Edge

June 30, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Chipper Jones missed his 8th straight game and is still
feeling pain in his quad. The prevailing notion is that
he'll play on Tuesday or he'll go on the DL.

Juan Pierre injured his left leg sliding into 2nd base. He's
scheduled for an MRI today.

Saturday's walking wounded, Magglio Ordonez, Lastings
Milledge and Michael Cuddyer all ended the day on the
DL.

Dan Uggla sat with a swollen ankle. He's day to day but
likely will miss a couple of games. Adjust accordingly by
considering a spot play at 2B for a few games.

Ryan Church was finally activated by the Mets and all
systems are go as he went 2/4.

Carlos Zambrano had a painfree bullpen session and
expects to be activated July 4th for a start vs. the
Cards.

Chris Young threw a simulated 3 inning game and felt it
went okay. He'll undergo surgery today on his septum.
He's likely to return to the Padres after the All Star break.

Eric Gagne was activated by the Brewers and has been
deemed a "reliever" by Yost. Thanks Ned for the insight.

Contrary to reports Brad Penny is doing well as evidenced
by a 70 pitch bullpen session. He intends to return before
the All Star break.

Jason Isringhausen is avoiding the DL for now but is sporting
a knee brace. That can't be a good thing for a pitcher!!

Felix Hernandez next start on Tuesday has been skipped due
to a sore ankle. King Felix will either pitch later in the week or
become a prospect for the DL. Stay tuned.

Oliver Perez is off until next Sunday. He'll work out of the pen.

Brett Myers is unlikely to make his start on Thursday as the
Phillies are going to pull him from the rotation.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Tim Redding- travels well and loves to pitch against the
Fish. 4-2, 3.40/1.30 in 42 frames vs. Florida and 3-0,
3.22/1.02 in 36 innings away from home this season.

Scott Baker- has a solid track record vs. the Tigers. 2-3,
3.42/1.08 in 55 innings and 2-0, 2.28/1.01 in 28 frames
at the Metrodome this year.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Dmitri Young- Meathook impales Hendrickson. 8/11, 4 extras
and a jack.

Akinori Iwamura- hits the soft stuff real well. 8/19, 3 extras
and 3 steals with 0 k's vs. Wakefield.

Aaron Rowand (start)- takes his measure of Ted Lilly. 6/16
with a homer, 3 rbi and a swipe.

bet he's honored. 18/52, 4 extras, 7 rbi vs. Maddux.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Nate McLouth (sit)- harassed by Harang. 1/13 with 5 k's.

Kevin Youkilis (sit)- falls on his Shields when facing James.
0/14 with 5 k's vs. the Rays righthander.

Aaron Laffey (stream)- L 5ip/5e/9w/2k

Ty Wigginton (spot)- 1/3

PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur
PE Nolasco(drop)/Byrd-Fri
PE Byrd(drop)/Bannister-Sat
PE Bannister(drop)/Pierre-Sat
PE Pierre(drop)/Helton-Sun

Strategy: Juan Pierre was released for Todd Helton
who will be spotted for Teixeira whose Braves have
the day off. Helton gives PE the potential to have 8
active on offense to 9 for OP. PE will send Harang/
Shields and 5 closers vs. 3 closers for OP. OP has
4 SP's going on Tuesday against 2 for PE which will
give both clubs 4 starts by the end of the night. PE
will then be able to assess if any form of streaming
needs to be initiated. Helton will likely be used for a
SS as insurance for Escobar who's still dealing with a
sore shoulder.

Game Keys: OP could not capitalize on a 3/29, 1 run,
1 rbi day by the PE offense. PE was just plain lucky.
Hamilton did steal a base to allow OP to tie the point.
All other points remained status quo as PE survived
to score a 6-3 victory to move into 2nd place.

Final Thoughts:

PE is in 2nd place .5 point out of 1st heading into a Week
14 meeting with the 3rd place team.

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 29, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Pedro Martinez was tipping his pitches to the Yankees
by widening the glove to grip his change up. This is an
easily remedied flaw and Pedro deserves the benefit of
the doubt for at least one more turn.

Erik Bedard and Felix Hernandez are ready to return to
the Mariners rotation. Bedard is penciled in for today and
the King should be back Tuesday or Wednesday.

Josh Johnson, trying to return from Tommy John surgery,
will have another rehab assignment today. There's a good
chance that Johnson, if all goes well today, will be called up
and start against Colorado on Friday. If you need SP help
he's worth a pickup but give him a start or 2 before using
him to see what kind of stuff he has.

Brett Myers may be yanked from the Phillies rotation. He's
been awful and with Lidge at the back of the bullpen Myers
would serve in a set up role if demoted. His value would nil.

Fausto Carmona and Travis Hafner will be sidelined until
after the All Star break.

Billy Butler was recalled by the Royals from Triple A. He
was hitting .337 and will serve primarily as the Royals
DH. He's serviceable as a spot play only.

Chone Figgins pinch hit last night. He has an infection on
his knee and the concern would be sliding into bases. It
appears that he'll be returning soon but his base running
may be limited for a few games.

Victor Martinez is progressing well from elbow problems
but is still a month or more from returning to the Tribe.

Alphonso Soriano, on the other hand, is ahead of schedule
with his recovery from an injured hand and could return
to the Cubs a couple of days before the All Star break.

Yunel Escobar and Chipper Jones sat out with a jammed
shoulder and sore quad respectively. Both players took
BP but are expected to miss today's action as well.

Paul Konerko felt a bit of minor discomfort after taking BP.
"Cashews" will definitely need a rehab assignment, before
rejoining the Pale Hose, to be certain that his oblique has
properly healed.

Magglio Ordonez was forced out of last night's game with
an oblique injury. More details regarding the extent of the
injury should be available today.

Dan Uggla left with a sprained ankle after sliding awkwardly
into 2nd base. X-rays were negative. He's day to day.

Michael Cuddyer sat out last night with a finger injury.

Lastings Milledge hobbled off with a groin injury.

Eric Chavez is struggling with a strained shoulder. He may
return today or tomorrow.

Nomar Garciaparra, Rafael Furcal and Andruw Jones are
expected to begin rehab assignments at Triple A Las Vegas
tomorrow. Talk about 3 amigos.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Gavin Floyd- has a familiar opponent coming into U.S
Cellular Field. 1-1, 4.38/1.22 with 11 k's in 12 innings
against the Indians and 5-1, 2.70/.94 with 38 k's in 57
frames at home this season.

Eric Stults- until he loses his Edge he's startable. He's
never faced Houston. 1-0, 1.50/1.17 in his only start on
the road this year.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jack Wilson- hammers Harang. 15/42, with 3 extras and 5 rbi.

2 jacks, 11 rbi and 2 swipes.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Bobby Abreu (sit)- has no answer for Oliver Perez. 0/10

is befuddled by Beckett. 2/14 with 6 k's.

PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed
PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur
PE Nolasco(drop)/Byrd-Fri
PE Byrd(drop)/Bannister-Sat
PE Bannister(drop)/Pierre-Sat

Strategy: PE Brian Bannister was used for Juan Pierre.
The pitching points have basically been decided for this
week so Pierre, hopefully, will swipe a base or 2 and then
he'll be waived for Jack Wilson as a spot play at SS for
Escobar on Monday. PE's Week 14 match up is a difficult
one. Both squads have 10 starts on the roster but OP's
offense is well rounded and formidable. Strategy will most
certainly change on a day to day basis as PE tries to get
an Edge on this OP.

Up until last week, Week 14 OP was in 1st place and it's
easy to see why. OP offense features the top 2 hitters in
the National League, Chipper Jones and Berkman. If that's
not enough add B.J. Upton, Jose Reyes, Bradley, Posada,
Orlando Cabrera, Nady and Fukudome to the mix. OP has
devastating speed, power and a plethora of .300 hitters. OP
pitching is led by Lee and Ervin Santana with Duchscherer,
Kershaw, Matsuzaka and Wellemeyer rounding out the staff.
OP closers are Papelbon, Capps and C.J. Wilson. OP has 10
starts on the roster and will have a full card active on Monday
offensively. OP was a 7-3 winner in Week 3.

Game Keys: OP's big 3 SP's, Webb, Lincecum and Hamels
were, as expected, phenomenal. They combined for 3 W's,
27 k's with only 6 earned, 24 whip in 20 innings. OP also
had a save from Rivera. PE Weaver threw 6 innings of a
no hitter against the Dodgers and still lost the game on his
own throwing error. However, Morrow and Saito had saves
for PE to secure the point. PE leads in W's 4-3 but neither
team has an SP today so OP would need a win from its closers
to play for the point. OP offense exploded going 15/40 to take
hold of BA aided by a dismal PE showing of 4/26. PE recorded
a stolen base from Kemp to take a lead of 1 in the category. All
of the offensive points are in play, with the exception of BA, as
the contest heads into today's finale with PE holding a tenuous
7-3 advantage.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 28, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Brad Penny experienced shoulder discomfort after his
bullpen session and has been shutdown.

Jason Isringhausen may be headed to the DL with a
strained right knee. Franklin owners are rejoicing.

Micah Owings hurt his right leg covering 1st base and
had to leave last night's game against the Marlins.

Coco Crisp had his suspension reduced to 5 games from
7 which he'll begin serving today. He'll miss the Rays, now
that's convenient and return to the BoSox on Thursday
against the Yankees.

Akinori Iwamura will begin serving a 3 game suspension
tomorrow as well.

Edwin Encarnacion could return to the Reds on Sunday
creating a logjam on the left side of the infield with Jeff
Keppinger and Jerry Hairston. Jay Bruce may also lose
some PT when Baker decides to play all three and uses
Hairston in the OF.

Rafael Furcal is engaging in baseball activities and seems
to be on the mend from his lower back problems. Torre
says that he expects him around the All Star break while
Furcal says it will be sooner. Let's hope Raffy's got it right.

Ryan Church may return on Sunday, how appropriate.
The operative word is may so check the Mets box score
before activating him.

Josh Hamilton returned, again, last night. Obviously the
Rangers were being very careful with their slugger. He
went 1/3 with a run and 2 rbi.

Yunel Escobar sat out for a second consecutive game with
a jammed shoulder. He's still considered day to day.

Chone Figgins sat out with an infected knee. This type of
thing is tricky and Chone could miss some time. Check the
Angels box this evening before activating him.

Alexi Casilla was removed from last night's game with a
sprained middle finger. More details regarding the extent
of the injury should be available today.

Hideki Matsui went on the DL with a sore knee.

Interleague play concludes this weekend. Plan for it as
DH's for Baltimore, Seattle, Tampa Bay, the Red Sox,
the Yankees and the Angels could miss some or all of
the weekend's action. Damon, Matsui and Giambi owners
and spot players Floyd, Vidro, Huff and Matthews may
be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Brian Bannister- will welcome St. Louis into Kaufmann
Stadium with open arms. 2-0, 1.29/1.29 in 14 innings
against the Cards and 5-2, 3.29/1.04 in 62 frames at
home this year.

Aaron Laffey- has no history vs. the Reds but has been
rock solid at home this year. 4-2, 1.39/.99 in 45 innings
at Progressive Field this season.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Ty Wigginton- profound Beckett basher. 7/19, 5 extras, 3 homers
and 5 rbi vs. the Red Sox ace.

Dmitri Young- Meathook slings Guthrie over his shoulder. 4/9 with
an extra base hit.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Carlos Delgado (start)- has had some amazing swings against
Andy Pettitte. 21/63, 8 extras, 5 jacarandas and 17 ribeyes.

lineup. 11/32 with 3 mults and 8 rbi.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Ken Griffey (sit)- even Hall of Famer's struggle. 2/12

bench. 1/11 with 3 k's.

Strategy: PE Byrd was used for Brian Bannister who
will serve as a placeholder depending on how OP's trio
of Webb, Lincecum and Hamels perform. PE may elect
to do nothing or play for a win (Bannister) or stream for
K's using a lesser matchup with a higher probability of
strikeouts. OP left Myers inactive so this is all that is
left of OP SP's. PE will send Weaver/Byrd tonight to
try to put the finishing touches on the W and K points.
Hopefully, Escobar and Figgins return for PE today as
OP is back at full strength with Josh Hamilton returning
to the Rangers lineup.

Game Keys: PE SP Martinez, stream Nolasco along with
2 closers had a win and a save going 16 innings allowing 7
earned, 18 whip with 17 k's. PE spot closer Morrow had
the save which increased the lead in the category to 3-1.
PE has opened up a margin of 4 in W's. OP Myers was
left inactive which was too bad for PE as Myers was awful
yielding 5 earned and 9 whip in 2 innings. Maybe OP had
a crystal ball. Both offenses continue to underperform with
every point still in play. PE continues to lead 7-2.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 27, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Albert Pujols was activated by the Cards. Albert the
Great played DH and went 4/4 with an rbi.

On a lesser note Xavier Nady also returned to action.
Ultimately the game was rained out but Nady appears
good to go.

Kosuke Fukudome missed a second consecutive game
with tightness in his calf. He's day to day.

Johnny Damon couldn't walk 2 days ago but was in the
Yankees lineup last night and stole a base. It's a miracle!

Hideki Matsui sat out again last night with a sore knee.
He's scheduled to be examined today and he'll either be
cleared to play or placed on the DL. Stay tuned.

Josh Hamilton (knee) and Milton Bradley (quad) were
in the Rangers starting lineup last night. Josh was hit
on the left hand by a pitch in the 1st inning and had to
leave the game an inning later while Milton chimed in
with a pedestrian 1/3. Hamilton's x-ray was negative.
He's day to day.

Chris Davis was brought up by the Rangers to play 1B.
It seems the club grew weary of waiting on Hank Blalock.
Davis had 23 homers and 73 rbi in Double and Triple A
this season. He might be worth a flyer if your roster is
in need of power.

Carlos Zambrano threw off flat ground yesterday and
if he feels no pain will pitch a bullpen session on Sunday.
He's eligible to be activated from the DL against the
Cardinals on 4th of July weekend.

Shaun Hill was placed on the DL with forearm soreness
even though tests showed that he has no structural
damage.

Ian Snell takes a trip to the DL with a strained elbow.

Troy Percival is still being bothered by a sore hamstring.
He wants to pitch through the discomfort but Maddon
may decide not to pitch Percy on consecutive days until
he's healed completely.

J.J. Putz will not return until after the All Star Break. If
Brandon Morrow can stay healthy he'll close for Seattle
until Putz returns.

Paul Byrd- has had great success vs. the Reds over the
years. 4-1, 3.04/1.33 with 34 k's in 50 innings.

Kyle Davies- was rocked in his last outing but bounces
back vs. the Cards on the road. 1-0, 1.29/1.14 over 7
innings against St. Louis and 2-0, 1.32/1.17 in 12 frames
on the road this year.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jim Edmonds- has a good matchup against Javy Vasquez.
8/20, 5 extras, 2 clouts and 6 rbi.

Craig Counsell- will get a start today against Livan Hernandez.
17/42, 2 mults, 4 rbi and a couple of steals.

Start/Sit: (today)

vs the Bombers and 8-4, 2.35/.98 in 110 innings at Yankees
Stadium.

Stephen Drew (start)- hasn't seen Nolasco often but has hit
him when he has. 3/6 with 2 jacks.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Bobby Abreu (sit)- struggles against Pedro Martinez.

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed
PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur
PE Nolasco(drop)/Byrd-Fri

Strategy: PE stream Nolasco was used for Paul Byrd.
OP surprisingly did not activate Loney/Ludwick who
went a combined 0/9. OP has Myers today but has him
inactive so it remains to be seen whether he makes the
roster shuffle. OP is in 1st place, has made 24 transactions
year to date and actively manages this team weekly so
this inactivity is out of character. OP Hamilton returned
last night only to leave after being hit on the hand by a
pitch in the 1st inning. He's day to day. PE Escobar is
still uncertain for tonight's game. PE sends 2 SP's to the
hill looking to increase the advantage in W's and K's.

Game Keys: PE SP's Harden/Cain and stream Danks
combined for 2 W's with 4 earned, 21 whip and 18 k's
over 19 innings. Harden was brilliant, Cain mediocre
and Danks somewhere in between. PE closed the gap
in ERA/WHIP but there's still only a remote chance
that PE could earn either of those points. PE leads by
3 W's and 27 K's. The lead in Saves of 1 is worrisome.
Neither offense could generate any promotable stats
last night. All categories remained status quo as PE
continues to hold a tenuous 7-2 lead heading into the
turn.

Final Thoughts
:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 26, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Albert Pujols may be activated today by the Cards.

Ryan Braun has been getting treatment for an injured
hand over the last week. He's probably not going to
miss any time as long as it doesn't get aggravated but
it's worth watching.

Josh Hamilton sat out last night with a sore knee. He's
day to day.

Kosuke Fukudome was scratched due to tightness in
his calf.

David Ortiz is hitting off a tee which is an important 1st
step to beginning a rehab assignment. So far so good.

Kevin Youkilis returned last night from a brief hiatus
caused by a throw that hit him in the eye. Youk went
1/4.

Brandon Inge was placed on the DL with a strained
oblique.

Nomar Garciaparra intends to begin a rehab assignment
next week. The Edge will believe it when it happens.

Johnny Damon may avoid a stint on the DL as his sore
arch is feeling a little better.

Yunel Escobar sat out yesterday with a sore shoulder.
He's day to day and is expected to return on Friday vs.
the Blue Jays.

Jerry Hairston Jr. will be activated today and will likely
play SS with Keppinger playing 3B. Encarnacion is out
so this will help the Reds immediately.

Carlos Pena is expected to rejoin the Rays in Pittsburgh
on Friday.

Felix Hernandez will miss his start on Sunday due to a
sore ankle. Erik Bedard hopes to be able to take that
turn as his back spasms have subsided enough to allow
Bedard to resume throwing again.

Shawn Hill has been awful for almost the entire season.
He's heading to the Mayo Clinic to get an opinion on the
chronic pain he's experienced in his forearm and elbow
all year. As bad as the Nationals are you would think
that they would shelve Hill until he's painfree.

Brad Penny threw off a mound yesterday for the 1st
time since being placed on the DL. The session went
well enough for Penny to pitch a simulated game on
Saturday.

Ricky Nolasco- pitches better at home and has a favorable
opponent paying a visit. 2-0, 2.51/.84 with 11 k's in 14
frames vs. the D-Backs.

Jarrod Washburn- faces the light hitting Padres at Petco.
1-0, 3.72/1.14 with 13 k's in 19 innings against San Diego.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jay Payton- gets the nod for the 2nd day running as a
"Spottie". 11/30, 3 extras, 2 bombs, 4 rbi vs. Odalis
Perez.

Dmitri Young- digs in against the hard throwing Daniel
Cabrera. 4/8 with a jack.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Kevin Millar (start)- has a nice track record against Marquis.

Eric Chavez (start)- has a solid start vs. Adam Eaton. 3/9
with only 1 k.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Miguel Tejada (sit)- faced Millwood often in the American
League with poor results. 3/19 with 2 k's.

Daily Activity:

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed
PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur

Strategy: PE stream John Danks was used for Nolasco.
PE needs W's and K's so streaming will continue to be
the strategy of choice through Saturday at the minimum.
OP has left a few AB's on the table with Loney who could
have been activated last night. OP has been hampered by
injuries to key players, most notably Hamilton while PE
Escobar missed another game this time with a jammed
shoulder. Strategy for the remainder of the week seems
to be straight forward with streaming but it's essential
to evaluate options after each night's results.

Game Keys: PE SP's Harang/Shields combined for 1 W
with 6 earned, 14 whip and 8 k's over 12.2 innings. The
struggles for Harang continued so it was Shields 7 innings
of 1 earned, 4 whip that led the way to an acceptable stat
line and the W. PE was further bolstered by 3.2 innings
with 0 runs, 0 whip and a 5 k performance from 4 closers
that included 2 saves. OP Oswalt was terrific in a loss and
joined with 2 closers for a 9 inning output of 3 earned, 8
whip and 9 k's with a save. Predictably, OP is low ERA/
WHIP heading into the midpoint of the match. Neither
offense has done much so far with every category still in
play. PE sends 3 SP's and 3 closers vs. 2 closers for OP
with PE having the potential of 4 hitters active against
the possibility of 7 active on offense for OP today. PE is
hoping that OP doesn't gain too much ground tonight in
the offensive categories. The match is much closer than
the 7-2 score in favor of PE would indicate.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 25, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

The wail that was heard across the fantasy landscape
last evening came from Bronson Arroyo owners. He
had the worst start in the modern history of MLB
allowing 10 earned on 12 whip in 1 inning (gasp!!!!).

Rafael Soriano is still experiencing soreness in his right
elbow. There's no timetable for him to resume throwing.

Josh Hamilton left last night's game with inflammation in
his left knee. He's day to day.

Josh Willingham was activated yesterday by the Marlins.
The Hammer batted cleanup and went 1/5 with an rbi.

Gary Sheffield returned last night as well at DH going 1/4
with a 2 run homer.

Vlad Guerrero couldn't continue after batting in the 2nd
inning. He has the flu and will probably sit out today.
Adjust accordingly but verify that he is resting.

Ryan Doumit was back behind the plate for the Pirates
last night after missing 5 games with a concussion. He
made a splash going 3/5 with 2 runs, a jack and 2 rbi.

Xavier Nady may return tonight. Check the Pirates box
before starting him.

Ryan Church will begin his rehab assignment tomorrow
and could be back over the weekend.

Joe Crede was a late scratch with a stiff back. Crede sat
out most of last season after lower back surgery so this
setback should be of concern to his owners.

Kaz Matsui was added to the DL with a sore hamstring.

Kevin Youkilis was not in the starting lineup due to
swelling around his eye after being hit by an errant
throw between innings on Monday night. He's day
to day.

The Yankees have a creative solution to playing in a
National League city without a DH. Both Damon and
Matsui are hobbled by ailments and neither is available
to play the outfield at the moment. An obscure minor
leaguer named Justin Christian was called up play
leftfield for New York last night. Mr. Obscurity went
2/4 with 2 rbi.

596. That's the number of innings used that would
keep you on track to deploy maximum innings (1250)
over the course of the season in Rotisserie. A number
significantly above or below should be a call to action.

Kevin Millwood- has struggled a bit on the road this year
but has an amazing track record at Minute Maid. 4-0,
1.83/.90 in 34 frames in Houston and 6-3, 3.48/1.11
in 43 frames against Houston.

John Danks- has never faced the Dodgers but has been
a true road warrior this year. 2-1, 1.69/1.05 with 36 k's
in 43 innings away from home.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jay Payton- has a good resume' vs. Marquis. 5/13, 4 extras,
a blast, 3 rbi with only 1 k.

Mark Loretta- has faced Millwood numerous times with
good results. 12/34, 3 mults, 2 jacaranda's and 3 ribeyes.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Curtis Granderson (start)- nice stat line against Lohse.
7/15, 4 extras, 2 homers, 4 rbi with 1 k.

Josh Willingham (start)- the Marlins have activated him
and so should you. 3/8 with 2 extra base raps vs. Shields.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Kyle Lohse (sit)- has been an automatic start in all
formats but not today. 7-6, 5.74/1.50 in 100 innings
vs Detroit and 5-1, 4.46/1.57 in 58 frames on the
road this season. Don't be fooled by the won-loss as
his era/whip totals do not favor him in this matchup.

Mike Lowell (sit)- has a bad case of Big Unit-itis.
8/44 with 13 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Justin Masterson (stream)- ND 6ip/4e/11w/4k

Aaron Laffey (stream)- ND 6.2ip/1e/7w/1k

Scott Podsednik (spot)- DNP

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed

Strategy: PE has added John Danks for Masterson. The
play may be reversed for an offensive player after tonight's
early games have been played. If PE SP's Harang/Shields
register W 's with high K's then PE will opt for offense to
keep pressure on OP who's been hit by injuries to Hamilton,
Youkilis and Crede. The concern is with K's and W's as PE
streams have been folly this week. OP has Oswalt tonight.
OP offense has the potential of 7 active Thursday to PE 's
4. OP's 5 SP's will have completed their starts by Saturday
giving PE an opportunity to stream heavily on Sunday if
necessary.

Game Keys: PE stream Justin Masterson was gritty but
ineffective. PE pitching, week to date, has been dreadful
virtually putting ERA and WHIP out of play after only 2
starts. OP has 2 SP's and 5 closers going tonight vs. OP's
1 SP and 3 closers. PE offense has produced only 1 HR but
leads in every category primarily due to OP injuries. The
match begins in earnest today as OP should be able to make
the adjustments on offense using bench players and finally
gets some pitching in the game.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 24, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Gary Sheffield could be activated today by the Tigers.
It's not likely that he'll be the Sheff of old but if he's in
free agency he might be worth a flyer.

Nomar Garciaparra is resuming baseball activities today,
5 days earlier than what was recommended. He's eligible
to be activated tomorrow but he still has a way to go
before he returns to the Dodgers at SS.

Expect Ryan Church to return to the Mets, perhaps at
DH, for the Subway Series with the Yankees beginning
on Friday.

Chipper Jones will probably also return over the weekend
as a DH against the Blue Jays in Toronto. The quad is still
giving him problems.

Xavier Nady remains out with a bruised shoulder. There is
no timetable for his return.

Milton Bradley has been unable to go for the Rangers. The
Phillies visit Arlington on Friday and it's likely that Milton
will return as a DH during this series.

Kevin Youkilis was hit under the eye by a thrown ball in
between innings. He left the game for treatment and
should return to the Red Sox lineup today.

Chris Carpenter has been transferred to the 60 day DL.
He's not likely to return until September if at all this
season.

J.J. Putz is not expected to return until the All Star break
leaving Brandon Morrow with the Mariners closing gig.
Morrow, ironically, has been unable go due to back spasms
although he's expected to be available tonight.

Felix Hernandez sprained his left ankle covering home
but an x-ray was negative and King Felix is not expected
to miss a turn.

Shaun Marcum's MRI revealed only strained ligaments in
his elbow. Dr. James Andrews advised that he can resume
a throwing program as soon as Saturday.

Eric Bedard will skip his next start but is likely to avoid a
stint on the DL while his back spasms subside.

Interleague play continues next week. Plan for it as DH's
for Baltimore, Seattle, Texas, Tampa Bay, Minnesota, the
Yankees, the Angels and the White Sox could miss some
or all of the early week action. Thome, Damon, Matsui
and Giambi owners and spot players Floyd, Vidro, Huff
and Matthews could be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Greg Smith- has never faced the Phillies but has done
his best work at home. 2-2, 2.84/1.21 with 27 k's in 38
frames this season at the McAfee Coliseum.

Tim Wakefield- the free swinging D-Backs are made to
order for the knuckleballer. 3-2, 3.89/1.30 in 39 innings
vs. Arizona.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

David Eckstein- had tremendous success against Harang
when Eck was the Cards SS. 13/32 with 3 extras.

Brandon Inge- has hit Lohse hard in the past. 9/27 with
2 jacks.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Eric Chavez (start)- impressive stat line vs. lefty Moyer.

Ryan Ludwick (start)- Rogers deals to no avail. 5/9, 3
extras and a homer vs. the Gambler.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Jermaine Dye (sit)- has been red hot but likely to get
doused today. 4/21 with 4 k's vs. Lowe.

Pat Burrell (sit)- maybe he just had a bad day last time
vs. Blanton but it is what it is. 0/4 with 3k's.

Dmitri Young (spot)- 0/3

Strategy: PE has 2 SP's and 5 closers going tomorrow
so there is no roster availability for a stream. It's likely
that PE will use the roster flex slot (Masterson) to spot
play on offense for Thursday. OP will have 7 hitters to
PE's 4 on that day. Clearly, PE must take W's, K's, Saves
to have a chance for a solid week against the 1st place
team. OP has no SP's until tomorrow when Roy Oswalt
toes the rubber but has 3 closers active. PE uses stream
Masterson in search of a W and 5 closers if Morrow can
go. Escobar returned last night so both clubs will have
full dance cards on offense. Strategy is fluid so tonight's
action will shed additional light on what needs to be done
to compete this week.

Game Keys: Jeff Francis has all but put ERA and WHIP
out of reach with his 7 earned, 10 whip, 4.1 inning outing
last night against the Royals. This OP's SP's are likely to
be low ERA/WHIP. Obviously it's early in the week but
this performance is going to be difficult to overcome. PE
had 2 steals yesterday and needs to continue this trend
as OP Ellsbury and Victorino are bound to swipe several
bases this week. The contest, for all intent, begins tonight
on offense. PE has one SP and 5 potential closers to OP's
3 closers.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 23, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

David Price, the overall #1 pick in the 2007 MLB draft, has
been promoted by the Rays to Double A Montgomery. He
will be worth a priority waiver if the Rays bring him up for
the stretch run in September.

Jeff Keppinger was activated from the DL yesterday and
immediately inserted in the Reds lineup batting 2nd. The
Reds have had 4 SS's go on the DL so Kepp's bat and glove
were much needed. He went 1/4 and is a good solution if
you're SS poor but you had better move now if he's in free
agency as he'll be snapped up quickly.

Rickie Weeks returned as well and batted leadoff for the
Brew Crew. He started right where he left off going 0/3.

Clint Barmes was activated by the Rockies.

Kaz Matsui strained a hamstring and was forced to leave
yesterday's game. He's listed as day to day.

Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar sat yesterday for the
Braves with nagging injuries. Both players were available
to pinch hit and are considered day to day. Chipper is
supposed to sit today as well while there was no further
word on Escobar's status.

Milton Bradley missed his 5th game in a row with a sore
quad. Texas will play in Houston through Thursday so
Milton will have to play the OF to get some playing time.
He has been pinch hitting.

Adrian Beltre is sitting out due to a bruised index finger
that he aggravated taking grounders during pre-game
warmups on Saturday. He was not available to pinch hit
so it might be a few days before he returns.

Luis Castillo will be out for at least a few days with a sore
quad and may end up on the DL.

Carlos Pena may rejoin the Rays at the end of the week if
all goes well in a batting practice session on Tuesday.

Edwin Encanarcion left in the 1st inning yesterday with
back spasms. His status should be available today.

Justin Masterson- has been awesome in general and amazing
at Fenway Park in particular. He's facing the Diamondbacks
for the 1st time. 3-0, 2.59/1.07 with 18 k's in 24 frames in
Boston.

Aaron Laffey- has no history vs. the Giants. Another young
arm with an incredible appetite for home cooking. 4-2, 1.40/
.98 in 39 innings at Progressive Field.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Sean Casey- 2nd day in a row for Sean as a "Spottie".
14/36 with 6 extra base hits and 8 rbi vs. Doug Davis.

Scott Podsednik- has a nice stroke vs. Greinke but has
trouble reading him. 9/20 with a steal and 3 caught
stealing.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Raul Ibanez (start)- here's a batter that Johan Santana
dreads facing. 12/30, a jack, 8 rbi and 2 steals.

Kelly Johnson (start)- has an aggressive stroke vs. Ben
Sheets. 4/12 with an extra base knock.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Prince Fielder (sit)- maybe he figures out JoJo Reyes
today but so far no good. 0/5 with 2 k's.

Kevin Youkilis (sit)- has had no answer for Haren thus
far. 1/9 with 2 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

John Lester (stream)- ND 7.1ip/2e/10w/3k

Manny Parra (stream)- W 5ip/3e/11w/1k

Corey Patterson (spot)- 0/4

Gabe Gross (spot)- 1/4

Ken Griffey (start)- 1/3, solo homer

Aaron Rowand (start)- 2/4, run, 2 rbi

Jeff Kent (sit)- DNP

Orlando Hudson (sit)- 0/4

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon

Strategy: Jeff Francis was used for Justin Masterson in
a week where selective streaming will be deployed. OP
has only 5 SP's but they're all capable of high K, low ERA/
WHIP performances. The objective is to have an innings
advantage to secure K's while using only select streamers
to give PE a chance to take ERA/WHIP. PE will send 2
closers to join SP Francis while OP has only 1 closer active.
PE has 5 going on offense if Escobar plays with OP having
4 hitters today.

Game Keys: This was a close battle all week long with
neither squad being able to break away from the other.
PE managed to wrestle away WHIP due to OP stream
Davies allowing 8 whip in 1.1 innings. OP countered by
taking BA going a robust 10/24. PE managed to tie HR
primarily on the 3 homers by Teixeira. All other points
remained status quo. PE took the match 6-3.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 22, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Carlos Zambrano was placed on the DL by the Cubs
yesterday.

Shaun Marcum was a surprise addition to the DL
with a strained right elbow.

Roy Halladay has had no adverse effects from being
hit in the head by a line drive and will take his normal
turn in the Blue Jays rotation.

Padres pitcher Chris Young should return to the club
by the All Star break. He's scheduled to have surgery
on his nose June 30th and should be back a couple of
weeks later.

Eric Gagne will begin a rehab assignment at Triple A
Nashville on Tuesday. He'll make 2 appearances and
rejoin the Brewers in Minnesota over the weekend.
Yost has maintained that Gagne will be a set up man.

Todd Wellemeyer had a successful 40 pitch bullpen
session and believes that he'll be able to take a turn
in the Cards rotation on Thursday.

Eric Bedard is day to day as he's feeling much better
after being forced out of his last start with back spasms.

Brandon Morrow will meet up with the Mariners in New
York on Monday as Seattle visits the Mets. Morrow has
been dealing with back spasms. He'll assume the closer
role until Putz returns.

Albert Pujols is recovering nicely from a calf strain and
is expected to be activated on Thursday when eligible
to come off the DL.

Chase Utley was given the night off in the midst of an
0/23 slump. He'll back today.

Milton Bradley is hoping to avoid a stint on the DL after
missing his 4th consecutive game with a sore quad.

Adrian Beltre was a late scratch with a bruised left index
finger. There's been no update regarding the extent or
severity of the injury.

Mark Reynolds hobbled from last night's game after fouling
a ball off his foot. He's certain to miss today's game at the
minimum, so adjust accordingly.

Ryan Church will start a rehab assignment next week
at Single A Brooklyn. He'll play a game or 2 and then
rejoin the Mets.

Josh Willingham is returning to the Marlins lineup on
Tuesday. He was hitting well in April before being
disabled and could provide help at OF/Util if he's
available in free agency.

Eric Byrnes should return to the D-Back's lineup on
Monday. If he gets off to a good start you might want
to consider selling high as he's dealing with small tears
in both hamstrings.

Andruw Jones took BP and should return to the club
around the All Star break.

Rafael Furcal disagrees with Joe Torre and says that
he'll be back before the break.

Nomar Garciaparra has been shutdown from all baseball
activities for at least 10 days. It's unlikely that Nomar
will be able to remain healthy enough for long enough
to have any kind of fantasy impact this season.

JoJo Reyes- has really come into his own of late especially
on the road. He faces a good hitting Milwaukee team at
Turner Field so proceed with caution. 0-1, 2.92/.89 with
11 k's in 12 innings vs. the Brew Crew.

Jeff Francis- was dropped by many owners after a horrific
start to the season. 2-1, 2.88/1.16 in 25 innings over his
last 4 starts. 1-0, 1.88/.98 with 12 k's in 14 frames against
the Royals.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Sean Casey- rings up Dan Haren frequently. 5/13 with 2
extras.

Dmitri Young- Meathook has had a bit of success against
Lackey. 3/9 with an extra base knock.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Ken Griffey(start)- really hits southpaw Andy Pettitte
with authority. 17/48, 5 extras, 2 bombs and 6 rbi.

Aaron Rowand (start)- limited swings vs. Kyle Davies
but the ones he's had have been good. 3/6 with 2 mults.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Jeff Kent (sit)- the epitome of a professional hitter but
struggles mightily against Paul Byrd. 1/10, 2 k's.

Orlando Hudson (sit)- can't seem to catch up with any
of the stuff offered by Livan Hernandez. 1/13 with 2 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Paul Maholm (stream)- W 7ip/3e/10w/1k

Edwin Jackson (stream)- ND 6.1ip/2e/8w/3k

Cliff Floyd (spot)- Oswalt-DNP

Omar Vizquel (spot)- 0/3

Troy Glaus (start)- 2/4, 2 runs, homer, 4 rbi

Joe Crede (start)- 0/3

Derrek Lee (sit)- 2/4, 2 runs, 2 rbi

Kevin Millar (sit)- 0/3

Daily Activity:

PE Rasner(drop)/Davis-Wed
PE Davis(drop)/Jurrjens-Fri
PE Jurrjens(drop)/Wolf-Sat
OP Marcum(DL)/Davies-Sat
PE Wolf(drop)/Francis-Sun

Strategy: Jair Jurrjens was dropped for SP Randy Wolf
to try to protect the point for PE in W. OP added Davies
for today after placing Marcum on the DL. OP now has
Verlander, Billingsley and Davies going against Wolf and
Weaver for PE. Morrow was retained as much to keep
him away from Week 13 OP, who grabbed Mike Gonzalez
last week, as much as to have a 5-3 advantage in closers
over next week's OP. Escobar pinch hit last night so there
is a chance that he'll play today otherwise PE could play 1
down on offense today. Wolf was dropped today for Jeff
Francis on Monday. That will give PE 7 roster starts
compared to 5 for Week 13 OP.

Week 13 OP is in 2nd place affording PE an opportunity to
gain significant positional ground. OP features Utley, Josh
Hamilton and Ellsbury for a solid balance of high batting
average with speed and power. The supporting cast is
more of the same with Loney,Victorino, Renteria, Youkilis
and J.D.Drew. OP's SP's have high K, low ERA/WHIP
potential with Hamels, Webb, Lincecum, Oswalt and Myers.
OP has 3 solid closers in Rivera, B.J. Ryan and Mike Gonzalez.
OP will only get a single start from each SP having 5 on the
roster for the week. PE won the Week 2 matchup 5-4.

Game Keys: OP C.C. Sabathia was outstanding allowing 1
run with 6 whip and 10 k's in 7 innings. He did not figure in
the decision. PE stream Jurrjens was solid but Martinez
blew up in the 5th inning allowing 6 runs and 10 whip in 4.1
frames. Neither PE hurler could secure a W. Wood carved
out a save giving PE an insurmountable lead in that category.
OP has a 3-2 advantage in SP's today as PE leads in W's by 2.
ERA/WHIP are still controlled by OP while PE has a 25 K
advantage. PE offense was just good enough to forge ahead
in BA while still maintaining a modest lead in Runs while OP
leads by 1 in HR. OP leads by 5 in RBI with PE ahead by 4
in SB. The match stands at 6-4 for PE with all points in play
except Saves and K's which are controlled by PE.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 4.5 points out of 1st and 1 out of
2nd place with the regular season half over.

Fantasy Player's Edge

June 21, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Curt Schilling will have shoulder surgery on Monday
ending his season and perhaps his career.

Carlos Zambrano had an MRI which revealed a mild
shoulder strain. He'll miss his next start on Tuesday
and may be placed on the DL to assure a complete
recovery. The injury is not believed to be serious.

Roy Halladay got hit in the side of the head with a
line drive. He's reportedly fine but it wouldn't be a
shocker if he missed a turn.

Rafael Soriano is still experiencing pain in his right
elbow and will not be activated. Hold him just a bit
longer until additional details become available but
this revelation is not a good thing.

Eric Bedard left the game last night after 3 innings
in severe pain with back spasms. The extent of the
problem is not yet known.

Brandon Morrow, Putz's spot closer, did not fly with
the team to Atlanta. He also had back spasms and
they were concerned that the long flight would be
a problem for the reliever. He's supposed to join the
team as soon as the effects of the spasms are gone.

Josh Johnson had a successful rehab start in Single A
going 5.1 innings and throwing 85 pitches. He was an
effective hurler for the Marlins in 2006 and his rehab
is worth following as he could return sometime in July
to bolster a roster in need of SP.

C.J. Wilson has blown consecutive saves but Nolan
Ryan fully supports Wilson remaining as the team's
closer. Guardado speculators strongly disagree.

Troy Tulowitzki was activated from the DL last night
by the Rockies. He's rewarding his loyal owners as he's
back way ahead of schedule.

Rickie Weeks took ground balls before the Brewers game
and could be activated from the DL on Sunday when he's
eligible.

Milton Bradley missed his 3rd straight game with a sore
quad. He's expected to return sometime this weekend.

Yunel Escobar left last night's game with a hip flexor. He's
day to day but was seen limping after the game. This may
require a multiple game recovery period.

Chipper Jones is in the same boat with a strained quad. By
his own admission Jones advised that he'd have to sit out
for a few days. Adjust accordingly.

Xavier Nady will not play this weekend and will be evaluated
again on Monday.

David Ortiz will begin swinging a bat in 7 to 10 days.

Interleague play continues this week. Plan for it as DH's
for Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Seattle, Texas,
the Angels and the White Sox could miss some or all of the
weekend action. Thome owners and spot players Stairs,
Vidro, Huff and Matthews will be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Jon Lester- has never faced the Cardinals but has been
lights out at Fenway Park this season. 4-1, 2.55/1.17 in
53 frames at home.

Manny Parra- has no history vs. the Marlins. He's rock
solid at home going 4-0, 2.47/1.31 with 39 k's in 47
innings of work at Miller Park.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Corey Patterson- Baker will play Bruce in right field and Ken
Griffey at DH to make room for C-Patt. 7/19, a jack and 4 rbi
to go with 3 swipes vs. Pettitte.

Gabe Gross- limited but effective swings against Backe. 3/6
with an extra base knock.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Troy Glaus(start)- welcomes the return of Dice K. 6/9,
3 extras, 2 blasts and 5 ribeyes vs. Matsuzaka.

Joe Crede (start)- get him off the end of your bench.
3/6, with 2 homers and 4 rbi against Jason Marquis.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Derrek Lee (sit)- has problems with Jose Contreras.
2/11 with 2 k's.

Kevin Millar (sit)- gets overpowered by big McClung.
1/9 with 4 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Matt Garza (stream)- L 6ip/3e/9w/8k

Daily Activity:

PE Gomez(drop)/Olson-Mon
PE Olson(drop)/Rasner-Tues
PE Rasner(drop)/Davis-Wed
PE Davis(drop)/Jurrjens-Fri

Strategy: Yunel Escobar will probably miss the remaining
games this weekend due to a hip flexor. A decision will be
made late this evening, after the early night games are done,
whether to stream or spot play a SS for Sunday. OP Sabathia
pitches this afternoon and the outcome of his start will provide
greater detail to make an informed decision on PE pitching. It's
likely that Martinez/Jurrjens will start tonight for PE without
regard for Sabathia's outing in an attempt to close out W's and
K's. Either Morrow or Jurrjens will be used for a streamer or
a spot play SS which would likely be Drew who's available in
free agency, if needed.

Game Keys: PE Cain/Harden provided 1 W going a combined
13.2 innings allowing 4 earned, 13 whip while fanning 13. PE
closers were a mixed bag getting a W from Wood, a save from
Cordero and a nightmare from Saito who was rung up for 2
runs and 5 whip in an inning of work. OP Bedard left after the
3rd with back spasms but OP did get a 1st save for the week
from Valverde. PE continues to lead in W's and Saves by 2 and
5 respectively while enjoying a comfortable lead in K's by 25.
ERA/WHIP are still too close to call. Both teams have 3 starts
left in this week's contest. OP gained control of 3 offensive
categories yesterday, HR/RBI/BA with PE gaining an edge in
Runs by 1 while leading in SB's by 3. Heading down the river
the match is deadlocked 5-5 with only K's seemingly decided.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 4.5 points out of 1st and 1 out of
2nd place with the regular season half over.

June 20, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Albert Pujols participated in pregame drills yesterday
including BP and taking grounders. He's eligible to be
activated on the 26th so hopefully he's sufficiently
recovered from a strained calf to return to the Cards
on cue.

Jeff Keppinger is not ready to return even though he's
hitting 9/21 in his rehab assignment. They're targeting
the 30th when the Reds return home against the Pirates
for Kepp's return.

Travis Hafner was advised by Dr. Andrews to continue
with his shoulder strengthening program. He'll be looked
at again in 7 to 10 days. Best case scenario would seem
to have big Pronk returning before the All Star break.

Ken Griffey sat for a 3rd consecutive game with flu-like
symptoms. He might have returned yesterday if the Reds
had faced a righty. He'll be back today.

The scalding hot Milton Bradley sat again with a sore quad.
He's day to day but check the Rangers box today before
using him.

Hideki Matsui was out with a sore knee and is expected to
be back today.

Hiroki Kuroda was placed on the DL but will only miss one
turn for the Dodgers.

Eric Gagne had a good bullpen session setting up a rehab
assignment beginning on Monday. He's likely to return to
a set up role with the Brewers around the 27th. If you're
holding him it would be wise to see what Yost does with
him before you make a decision on the roster spot.

Interleague play continues this week. Plan for it as DH's
for Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Seattle, Texas,
the Angels and the White Sox could miss some or all of the
weekend action. Thome owners and spot players Stairs,
Vidro, Huff and Matthews will be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Paul Maholm- has no history vs. Toronto but has been
successful at home all season. 3-1, 3.42/1.19 in 55 innings
at PNC Park.

Edwin Jackson- has fared very well vs. the Astros. 2-0,
4.35/1.26 with 8 k's in 10 frames. The ERA portion of this
equation is a bit worrisome but if you need a W and K's he's
worth a gamble.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Cliff Floyd- strikes Oswalt authoritatively. 8/24, 4 extras, 2
bombs and 7 ribbies.

Omar Vizquel- mashes Meche. 5/11 with a homer and 0 k's.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Scott Rolen (start)- 2nd straight day on the "start" list
for Scotty. 5/8, with an extra base hit vs. Zach Duke

Nick Swisher (start)- finally hitting a little better and
has a solid matchup in Ted Lilly. 5/15 with 2 jacks.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Ken Griffey Jr. (sit)- should advise Baker that he's
still feeling the effects of flu-like symptoms and needs
one more day off. 7/45 with 13 k's against Mussina.

Howie Kendrick (sit)- struggles against Adam Eaton.
1/9 with 2 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Jhonny Peralta (sit)- 0/4

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Gomez(drop)/Olson-Mon
PE Olson(drop)/Rasner-Tues
PE Rasner(drop)/Davis-Wed
PE Davis(drop)/Jurrjens-Fri

Strategy: Doug Davis was dropped for SP Jair Jurrjens
giving PE 2 SP's to add to the 5 closers for Saturday. PE
will send SP's Cain/Harden against OP Bedard today.
Jurrjens will be released for Jon Lester on Sunday which
will give PE a 2 start advantage for the remainder of the
week. OP has Bedard, Sabathia, Verlander and Billingsley
going through Sunday so K's, even with PE's 2 extra turns,
is still up for grabs. Both offenses should be at full strength
throughout the weekend. OP has elected to use Markakis
over Rowand today.

Game Keys: PE Harang was simply dreadful allowing 5
earned on 13 whip in 5 innings with only 2 k's. The only
saving grace in this performance was PE Kemp's 2 run
jack off of Harang before he departed. Fortunately for PE
two other SP's and 3 closers combined to allow 5 runs on
18 whip in 15.1 innings to offset Harang's implosion. PE
had 22 k's on the day and 2 saves but could not add a W.
OP has managed to pull even in RBI but PE has a .02 lead
in BA. PE leads Saves by 5 but OP still has 12 save chances
remaining in the game. Otherwise, every other category is
too close to call with PE leading on the turn by a 5-2 count.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 4.5 points out of 1st and 1 out of
2nd place with the regular season half over.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
