Fantasy Player's Edge

July 31, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Aaron Harang
had a successful 50 pitch simulated
game. He'll throw a bullpen session on Friday and if
all goes well he'll head out to Triple A for a 75 pitch
start on Monday or Tuesday. He'll probably stretch
out one additional outing in the minors which would
have him returning to the Reds rotation around the
13th.

Adam Wainwright struggled in a bullpen session
yesterday. The Cards are now saying that he will not
begin a rehab assignment for 7 to 10 days.

Chris Carpenter returned to action last night facing
the Braves. He went 4 innings throwing 67 pitches.

Kerry Wood suffered a setback when the blister on
his finger prevented him from throwing a simulated
game. His status should be updated today but he is
not expected to return to the Cubs anytime soon.

Milton Bradley sat out last night with a sore quad.
Check the Rangers box daily before using him.

Michael Young was not in the Rangers lineup last
night as he tries to overcome the effects of a broken
ring finger.

Cristian Guzman's MRI on his right thumb was
negative. He's day to day.

Scott Rolen was scratched last night due to a sore
shoulder.

Rick Ankiel missed his 4th consecutive game with
an abdominal strain.

Paul Konerko may be benched for poor performance.
He should not be active on your roster.

Khalil Greene fractured his hand punching a storage
chest out of frustration for a season long slump.

David DeJesus is out with a sore back.

Ivan Rodriguez was traded to the Yankees creating a
full time catching gig for Brandon Inge. Both players
gain a bit of fantasy value from this transaction.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Nick Blackburn- has a decimated opponent coming into
the Metrodome. 2-0, 1.82/1.01 in 25 innings vs. Cleveland
and 5-2, 2.70/1.22 in 57 frames at home.

Chris Volstad- Marlins prize prospect has been impressive.
He had a win over Colorado in relief in his 1st major league
outing. 2-1, 2.38/1.19 in 23 innings this season.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jay Payton- has a knack for hitting Washburn. 10/24, 7
extras, 2 jacks and 5 rbi.

Ross Gload- hits Vazquez hard. 8/18, 3 mults and 4 rbi.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Garret Anderson (start)- has Pettitte's number. 27/71,
5 extras, 3 bombs, 10 ribbies and a stolen base.

Ryan Zimmerman (start)- leads a feeble offense vs. Kyle
Kendrick. 4/9 with 3 extra base raps.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Chris Young (sit)- whoosh!! 2/14 with 6 k's vs. Lowe.

Jim Thome (sit)- it's pretty ugly. 1/11 with 7 k's against
Scott Baker.

Studs and Duds

Delmon Young (start)- 1/4, rbi

Alex Rios (sit)- 2/5, run

Ryan Howard (sit)- 1/4

Daily Activity:

PE Blackburn(drop)/Kuroda-Sun
PE Kuroda(drop)/Davis-Mon
PE Davis(drop)/Johnson-Tue
PE Johnson(drop)/Sanchez-Wed
PE Sanchez(drop)/Blackburn-Thur

Strategy: PE stream Anibal Sanchez joins Rich Harden on
the bump facing Jon Garland for OP today. SP Blackburn
was added for Sanchez. PE will continue to stream looking
to add W's but mindful of ERA/WHIP. OP Garland will face
the Yankees in New York today where he has been rocked
in the past. PE has Harden vs. the Brewers, who are in need
of a win against the Cubs. PE has stream Sanchez facing the
Rockies. He's a risky start because it is his first coming off
an injury but if Harden, who has a day game, wins while
pitching well Sanchez will be benched.

Game Keys: OP offense continues to put pressure on PE by
going 13/34 with 7 runs, 2 homers and 7 rbi. PE hitters were
able to stay in the game with a 10/34 but lost control of HR,
RBI and BA. PE leads by 4 in Runs and has a commanding
6-0 lead in SB. PE pitching enjoyed a W from SP stream Josh
Johnson and added another save to lead W's by 1 and Saves
by 3 while forging a tie in ERA. PE has salted away K's and
has a reasonable cushion in WHIP. PE has 6 active on offense
to 3 for OP today. Heading into the mid-point of the contest
PE leads 6-3.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 9.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 11.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 18.
There are only 50 points (5 weeks) left in the season so PE needs
to capitalize on this week's inactive opponent to further the effort
to secure a first round bye in the playoffs.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 30, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Aaron Harang
will face hitters today and if all goes
well he'll head out for a rehab assignment. Best case
he could return to the Reds rotation on August 8th.

Adam Wainwright is scheduled for a rehab start
on Friday. Although Jason Isringhausen has been
anointed the Cards closer there is talk about the big
righthander returning as the Cards closer.

Occasional stream candidate Jose Contreras will
have a rehab assignment on Sunday and should be
back in the ChiSox rotation by the end of next week.

Micah Owings has been optioned to Triple A Tucson
after allowing 8 runs to the light hitting Padres. Micah
will be replaced in the D-Backs rotation by Yusmeiro
Petit
who has pitched very well this season.

Chris Carpenter returns tonight against the Braves.
He'll be on an 80-85 pitch count but will be pulled if
he struggles physically in anyway.

John Maine's MRI revealed a slightly strained rotator
cuff. It's unclear how much time he will miss, if any.

Jeff Samardzija may vulture a few saves during the
next week until Kerry Wood returns.

Mark Teixeira and Casey Kotchman were swapped
as their owners lost AB's last night as they traveled to
catch up with their new teams. This deal should not
have an affect on either player's fantasy value.

Michael Young has already returned to the Rangers
lineup from a fractured ring finger.

Cristian Guzman is having a precautionary MRI on
his right thumb. He is not expected to go on the DL
and may return to the Nationals starting lineup today.

Milton Bradley left last night's game with a strained
quad. The extent of the injury should be known today.

Alexi Casilla is likely out for the season with a torn
tendon in his right thumb.

Speedster Michael Bourn will remain sidelined until
Friday. He's nursing a sore ankle.

Kenji Johjima suffered a knee injury after being hit by
a pitch below the left knee.

Victor Martinez caught a bullpen session yesterday
to keep his legs in shape. He did not return any throws.
He's still tracking for a mid-August return.

Jerry Hairston Jr. began a rehab assignment and is
due to be called up imminently. The Reds are a better
team when Hairston plays.

Ryan Church could return to the Mets next week. He
is well enough to begin a minor league stint towards the
end of the week which should lead back to the big club.

Fernando Tatis has been named, by Jerry Manuel,
the Mets everyday leftfielder. He's hitting .322 with
power and speed so he might be worth riding until he
cools off.

Hank Blalock's upset stomach turned out to be a
sore shoulder and ended up on the DL.

Torii Hunter will miss games on Saturday and Sunday
as he attends the funeral for his grandmother. Adjust
your roster in advance.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Anibal Sanchez- returns to action vs the Rockies. He has
no history vs. Colorado but has been awesome at Dolphins
Stadium over the course of his career. 8-1, 2.86/1.15 with
48 k's in 69 innings at home.

Kyle Kendrick- faces this year's patsies, the Nationals. 0-1,
3.63/1.27 in 17 frames vs. Washington.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Mark Kotsay- has had success vs. Pineiro. 12/34 with 2
extras and 6 rbi.

Franklin Gutierrez- hits Verlander very well. 5/13 with
3 mults, a jack and 3 rbi.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Ken Griffey (start)- old man river just keeps rolling along.
9/12 with 2 bombs vs. Wandy Rodriguez.

Delmon Young (start)- has solid AB's against Gavin Floyd.
3/8 with 2 stolen bases.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Alex Rios (sit)- has trouble with everything that Edwin
Jackson delivers. 3/18 with 6 k's.

Ryan Howard (sit)- the big fella needs a day off. 1/13
with 6 k's against Tim Redding.

Daily Activity:

PE Blackburn(drop)/Kuroda-Sun
PE Kuroda(drop)/Davis-Mon

PE Johnson(drop)/Sanchez-Wed

Strategy: PE stream Josh Johnson was dropped for Anibal
Sanchez for a Thursday start. Johnson will join Carpenter in
PE's rotation today while OP has only Gagne and Bell active.
PE will continue to deploy 5 closers including Morrow/Putz.
PE seeks W's as K's are almost out of reach for OP. Putz was
give the save chance last night and blew it. Obviously this
will cause the Mariners to prolong the decision on the closer
spot.

Game Keys: PE offense reverted to the mean going 5/28
with 2 runs, 0 homers, 1 rbi and 2 steals allowing OP offense
to get back in the match with 6 runs, 2 homers and 4 rbi on
a 9/27 performance. PE stream Davis was outstanding in a
7.2 inning outing while earning a W. He combined with Cain
and 2 relievers to throw 16.1 frames yielding only 3 earned
on 15 whip with 19 k's. PE has 2 SP's today vs. 0 for OP with
PE having 9 active on offense compared to 8 hitters for OP.
All the game points with the exception of Saves and K's are
very much in play.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 9.5 points over the 2nd place

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 29, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Francisco Liriano had an average performance by his
most recent standards going 6 innings and allowing 4
runs. He did, however, have 9 k's vs. one walk. He's
likely to be recalled by the Twins this week.

Tom Glavine will throw a simulated game tomorrow
and could return to the Braves rotation by the middle
of August. With a rested arm and body he could be
useful for the stretch run and playoffs.

Tim Hudson was placed on the DL and is out for the
season with severe ligament damage in his right elbow.

Anibel Sanchez will be activated and face the Rockies
on Thursday.

Brad Penny will have 2 rehab starts which should put
him back in the Dodgers rotation around August 9th.

John Maine left last night's game in the 5th inning with
tightness in his throwing shoulder.

Kerry Wood will not be activated today as he struggles
to return from a blister on the middle finger of his right
hand.

Jason Isringhausen has been awarded the Cardinals
closing job by default as Ryan Franklin was awful in
the role.

As expected Chipper Jones went on the DL with a
strained hamstring.

Michael Young fractured a finger sliding back into a
base and preliminarily they are estimating that he
will miss about a week of action.

Jorge Posada will have season ending surgery on his
right shoulder.

Rick Ankiel missed his 2nd consecutive game with an
abdominal strain.

Nomar Garciaparra will be shutdown for a few days due
to a sprained MCL.

Hideki Matsui is hitting off of a tee and could return to
the bigs in a couple of weeks.

Hank Blalock sat out with an upset stomach.

Jerry Hairston Jr. is progressing well in his recovery
from a strained hamstring and may return to the Reds
by the weekend.

Andy LaRoche went on the DL with back spasms.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Josh Johnson- has 2 starts under his belt in his return from
Tommy John surgery and has a favorable opponent paying
a visit to Dolphins Stadium. 2-0, 0.00/.88 with 16 k's in 17
frames against the Mets.

Sean Gallagher- has no history but is a good bet to have 7+
k's against the free swinging Rangers. 1-0, 2.19/1.54 with
12 k's in 12 innings at McAfee Coliseum.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Geoff Jenkins- above .500 vs. Redding. 11/19 with 6 extras
and a jack.

Dave Roberts- drives Billingsley batty. 9/15 with 2 steals.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Ryan Zimmerman (start)- clobbers Myers. 10/24 with 6 extras

Hank Blalock (start)- pounds Silva. 8/21 with 4 extras.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Chris Young (sit)- has no answer for Chris Young. 0/12
with 6 k's against the Padres big righthander.

with 4 k's

Daily Activity:

PE Kuroda(drop)/Davis-Mon
PE Davis(drop)/Johnson-Tue

Strategy: PE stream Davis was used for SP Josh Johnson for
a start on Wednesday. PE sends Cain/Davis and the closers
against Gagne/Bell for OP today. PE will continue streaming
looking to secure the W/K points. PE Morrow/Putz situation
is still unresolved as Morrow had the save last night with J.J.
available. PE Wood will remain on the DL as he struggles with
a blister which actually helps PE. Wood's activation, in theory,
should be at Morrow's expense so perhaps that situation will
be clarified before Wood is ready to close again for the Cubs.

Game Keys: The pitching on both sides was a mixed bag with
OP gaining a W and PE picking up a save. PE stream Kuroda
was awful allowing 7 earned on 9 whip in 3.2 innings but was
partially offset by Shields and 2 closers going 9.1 frames with
3 earned on 8 whip. OP had Mussina allow 6 earned on 9 whip
in 5 innings but controls ERA because Burnett and 2 relievers
had a combined 9 shutout innings with 14 whip. PE, however,
leads in WHIP. PE offense was stout going 13/36 with 9 runs,
2 homers, 5 rbi and a stolen base to take an early lead in all 5
offensive categories.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 9.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 11.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 18.

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 28, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Adam Wainwright threw 55 pitches in a bullpen outing
on Saturday and is scheduled for another on Tuesday.
The Cards will evaluate him at that point and may send
him for a rehab assignment. The rhetoric suggests that
Wainwright may return as a closer.

Chris Carpenter had a good workout yesterday and will
make a start on Wednesday. His pitch count is likely to
be limited to about 70 so keep your expectations for
his return to greatness in check.

Aaron Harang has done some light throwing for a couple
of days and Baker says he's doing fine. He's scheduled to
throw from a mound today but no timetable has been set
for Harang to begin throwing in earnest.

Erik Bedard is still several days away from beginning a
throwing program. Speculation suggests that he may be
out until late August or early September.

Brad Penny is getting closer to returning. He threw a 50
pitch simulated game on Saturday and will throw a side
session either today or tomorrow. If there are no issues
he'll take a rehab assignment and should be available to
rejoin the Dodgers rotation 5 days later around August
4th.

Pedro Martinez is scheduled return to the Mets rotation
on Friday against the Astros.

Todd Jones has been replaced as the Tigers closer (finally)
by Fernando Rodney.

SP's Weaver, Matsuzaka, Maine, Cueto, Oswalt, Shields,
Burnett, Lilly, Sabathia, Buehrle, Lackey, Mussina, Cain,
Zambrano, Young, Sheets and Oliver Perez are the likely
candidates for 2 starts this week. (SP's normally start on
every 5th day so starters on Monday/Tuesday are likely
to pitch on Saturday/Sunday respectively.)

SP stream possibilities for 2 starts this week; Byrd, Greg
Smith, Kuroda, Perkins and Doug Davis. Candidates are

chosen based on having a favorable start on Monday or
Tuesday.

Brian McCann suffered a mild concussion after a collision
at home plate with Shane Victorino. It's unclear whether
McCann will need a stint on the DL to clear his head.

Chipper Jones is very likely to end up on the DL. Make
plans now for the inevitable.

Rick Ankiel sat out with an abdominal strain. The extent
of this injury is unknown at this time.

Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche left the Pirates game
yesterday with back spasms.

Nomar Garciaparra was removed in the 6th inning due
to a left knee irritation.

Cristian Guzman has a bruised right thumb and is day
to day. He's having a career season.

Eric Chavez has a shredded labrum and may be done at
3B at best or baseball at the worst.

Jose Guillen felt his groin "snap". That sounds worse than
a strain or a pull but we'll wait for the official word on his
status.

Speedsters Carlos Gomez and Michael Bourn are out today
and questionable for tomorrow. Check the respective box
scores before inserting either in your starting lineup.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Glen Perkins- has a couple of good starts against the ChiSox.
0-0, 3.75/1.17 with 9 k's in 12 innings.

Doug Davis- very nice track record vs. the Padres. 6-3, 3.36/
1.27 with 57 k's in 75 frames.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Cody Ross- has an affinity for Oliver's twist. 7/17, 4 extras,
3 bombs and 10 rbi vs. Perez.

Mark Loretta- better than .500 against Arroyo. 11/20 with
a couple of extra base knocks.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Nick Markakis (start)- near perfect against Rasner. 9/11 with

Conor Jackson (start)- has really come into his own this season.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Jason Bay (sit)- hitless against Glendon Rusch. 0/12 with 4 k's

Daily Activity:

PE Blackburn(drop)/Kuroda-Sun
PE Kuroda(drop)/Davis-Mon

Strategy: PE stream Kuroda was used for Tuesday streamer
Doug Davis. PE SP James Shields will join Kuroda on the bump
today. PE has decided to sit SP Jered Weaver who will be facing
the Red Sox at Fenway Park. OP will counter with A.J. Burnett/
Mussina. PE will have 5 closers including Morrow/Putz going
against set up relievers Gagne/Bell for OP. PE has 8 starts on
the roster vs. 5 for OP. PE will have a full dance card on offense
vs. 8 for OP. This is an inactive opponent so PE has to dominate
or face losing ground to other clubs that will face this OP over
the next 4 weeks.

Game Keys: PE's offense was minus 2B Brian Roberts but still
managed to take the BA point on a 12/30 performance. OP was
able to capture RBI as an offset but the final verdict was 7-3 in
favor of PE.

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 27, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Dustin McGowan will have season ending surgery on
his shoulder. It's safe to replace him on your roster.

Chris Carpenter is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday
against Atlanta. If he's available he's worth a flier.

David Price may be called up soon by the Rays. He's
the real deal and is worth a priority waiver.

Kevin Millwood went on the DL with a strained groin.

Scott Linebrink was added to the DL with an inflamed
right shoulder.

Anibal Sanchez appears ready to return to the Marlins
rotation after a 7 inning, 101 pitch effort in the minors.
Sanchez has good stuff and is worth keeping an eye on.

Aaron Laffey was optioned to make room for Fausto
Carmona.

Alex Rodriguez was hit on the wrist by a pitch and
left yesterday's game against the Red Sox. He's day
to day as the injury is said to be minor.

The enigmatic Manny Ramirez returned to action vs.
the Yankees going 0/4.

Jacoby Ellsbury was given a day off to clear his head as
the speedster has been struggling of late.

Casey Blake was traded to the Dodgers but his fantasy
value remains marginal.

Carlos Gomez will sit out today as well with a bruised
tailbone.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Hiroki Kuroda- has no history vs. the Giants but has been very
good at Dodger Stadium. 3-0, 2.63/.97 in 55 innings at home.

Paul Byrd- has been disappointing this year but has had good
luck against the Tigers historically. 9-2, 3.54/1.17 in 122 frames.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Willy Taveras- hits and steals against Ian Snell. 8/15 with 3 sb's.

Craig Monroe- wears Buehrle out. 14/38, 4 extras with 2 homers.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Randy Winn (start)- has great swings vs. Hall of Famer
Randy Johnson. 9/24, a homer, 5 rbi and 5 steals.

Carlos Delgado (start)- tags Lohse frequently. 7/15 with
a big fly.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Ryan Ludwick(sit)- will probably sit vs. Johan Santana. 2/11
with 6 k's.

PE Werth(drop)/Baek-Thur
PE Baek/(drop)/Pelfrey-Thur
PE Pelfrey(drop)/Bush-Fri
PE Bush(drop)/Blackburn-Sat
PE Blackburn(drop)/Kuroda-Sun

Strategy: PE stream Bush was used for SP Nick Blackburn to
make a last ditch effort to earn the WHIP point. Essentially this
is a meaningless play unless OP Park or Lyon blow up today. PE
has begun a streaming strategy for Week 18 with the selection
of SP Hiroki Kuroda. Blackburn was dropped to make room on
the roster. As a matter of housekeeping Carpenter was swapped
with Wood on the DL as Carpenter is scheduled to make a start
on Wednesday and Wood, even if activated on Tuesday, will not
be needed to secure the point in Saves (see Week 18 below).

Week 18 OP is in last place and is inactive. The offense is solid
featuring Miguel Cabrera, Crawford, Rios, Pence, Atkins, Tejada
and Pedroia so there is a blend of power and speed. OP's active
pitching is lean with Burnett, Mussina and Garland occupying
active roster spots with Lackey and Vazquez on the bench and
Penny and Wang on the DL. OP has set up men Gagne and Bell
as RP's. OP only has 5 starts on the roster unless the bench SP's
are utilized.

Game Keys: PE's offense was sputtering yesterday going 7/31
allowing OP with a 10/29 to take control of BA. PE did manage
12 rbi to tie the category. Every offensive point remains in play
with the possible exception of HR where PE leads by 4. All of the
pitching categories have been decided with PE winning W, Saves
and K and OP securing ERA/WHIP. Sunday's finale is virtually
even although PE is nursing a 6-3 lead. PE leads by only 2 in SB
and Runs while OP leads in BA by .10 with RBI tied.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week
16 took it's toll on all the top teams.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 26, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Rich Harden is starting today. There was some talk of
pushing him out one more day as A's did with him to
keep him fresh.

Fausto Carmona returns to the hill for the Indians as
he takes on the Twins at home.

Roy Oswalt felt fine after a bullpen session and will
make a start on Monday vs. the Reds.

Mike Hampton will make his 1st start in almost 3
years against the Phillies today. This is simply a
point of interest as he has no fantasy value.

Chris Carpenter threw 78 pitches over 5.2 innings
last night in a minor league start. He allowed 2 runs
on 4 whip while striking out 5. He also hit 2 batters.
He may be activated off of this effort but seemingly
could benefit from one more rehab start to fine tune
his command.

Billy Wagner is not sure that his shoulder issues are
behind him. He's simply going to deal with it on a day
to day basis.

Damaso Marte and Xavier Nady were traded to the
Yankees for 4 prospects. Nady should be even better
surrounded by great hitters and Marte will lose all
value as Rivera's set up man.

The Pirates do not have an active pitcher that has a
save this season. It'll be interesting to see who John
Russell turns to in the 9th inning. A reasonable guess
would be John Grabow.

Chipper Jones was out last night and is doubtful for
the weekend due to a sore hamstring.

David Ortiz started for the BoSox last night. Big Papi
went 1/4 while Manny Ramirez sat out again with a
sore knee.

Torii Hunter returned to active duty. His grandmother
passed away earlier in the week.

Juan Pierre returned to the Dodgers lineup last night
going 1/4 with a run.

Lastings Milledge was activated and played going 0/4
for the Nationals.

Carlos Gomez was carted of the field after making a great
catch in the 1st inning. X-Rays were negative and he's
day to day.

Joe Crede was added to the DL with a sore back and was
replaced on the roster by Josh Fields. Fields has power
and is worth a play if your roster is HR-lite.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Paul Maholm- has light hitting Padres coming into PNC Park.
0-1, 4.70/1.04 in 8 innings vs. San Diego and 5-1, 3.33/1.19
in 70 frames at home this season.

Nick Blackburn- has pitched well against the decimated Indians.
2-0, 2.04/1.13 in 18 innings vs. Cleveland.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jayson Werth- 2nd day running as a "spottie". 3/6 vs. Campillo.

Mark Loretta- feasts on Suppan's servings. 8/19, 2 extras, a
jack, 3 rbi with 0 k's.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Randy Winn (start)- has great swings vs. premier pitcher
Brandon Webb. 14/33, 4 extras, 6 rbi and a stolen base.

Conor Jackson (start)- hits the young fireballer Lincecum.
3/7 with 2 mults.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Paul Konerko (sit)- Paulie "Cashews" need to take the night
off. 3/24 with 8 k's against Verlander.

Ryan Zimmerman (sit)- has no "eye" for Derek Lowe. 2/11
with 5 k's.

Luis Gonzalez (spot)- 1/2

Conor Jackson (start)- 2/4, 2 runs, solo homer

PE Werth(drop)/Baek-Thur
PE Baek/(drop)/Pelfrey-Thur
PE Pelfrey(drop)/Bush-Fri

Strategy: PE SP Harden and stream Bush will start today to
make one last effort to earn the point in WHIP. PE pitching has
a 2.77/1.08 era/whip and trails in both categories to OP who is
sporting a 1.45/1.03. Harden/Bush will need to combine for 13
or more innings with 10 or less whip to "steal" the point. ERA is
out of reach. PE controls W, Saves and K so no further streaming
will be used this week. Bush will be released for a Week 18 play
either today or tomorrow.

Game Keys: OP Josh Beckett was gritty against the Yankees
allowing 1 run on 10 whip in 7 innings in a no decision but was
outpitched by PE stream Pelfrey. Big Mike scored a W going 7
frames allowing 1 earned on 7 whip. PE Broxton went 1+ innings
for a save. OP offense went 11/33 closing the gap in BA with PE
Young stealing a base to widen the margin in SB to 2. The contest
floats down the river with PE still holding a precarious 7-3 lead.
All of the offensive categories are in play. The pitching categories
are probably going to remain status quo with OP winning ERA/
WHIP and PE taking the other 3.

Final Thoughts

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 25, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Milton Bradley was hit by a pitch on his forearm late
Wednesday and is day to day. Check the Rangers box
before starting him.

Jimmy Rollins was scratched yesterday for arriving
late for a crucial game against the Mets. Go figure.

David Ortiz returns to active duty today vs. the boys
from the Bronx.

Chipper Jones will be examined today hoping to avoid
a stint on the DL. Given his history it's likely he'll end
up disabled. Adjust accordingly, just in case.

Dan Uggla, mired in a 1/22 funk, was given the night off
against Carlos Zambrano. He should return today.

Spot play Mark Ellis is expected to return to the A's line
up today.

Tim Hudson says that he will make his next start as the
soreness near his elbow is feeling much better.

Francisco Liriano should be recalled by the Twins in the
next few days.

Chris Carpenter has a rehab start today which will serve
as a barometer for where he is in his recovery. There is
some banter that if all goes well he could be activated by
the Cards next week. It's more likely that he'll need one
or 2 more starts in the minors before rejoining the club.
Stay tuned.

Adam Wainwright threw a bullpen session yesterday.
No timetable has been set for his return but a best
guess has him back in the Cards rotation by early
August.

Kerry Wood was placed on the DL with a blister on his
middle finger. He has not pitched since July 11th. Due
to the 10 day backdating rule for the DL Wood would
be eligible to return on Tuesday at the earliest.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Dave Bush- is a world class hurler at Miller Park and has a
favorable opponent coming in for a visit. 5-1, 3.22/1.04 with
47 k's in 64 frames vs. the Astros.

Odalis Perez- had loads of success at Dodger Stadium when
he was with Los Angeles. 2-0, 2.25/1.25 in 20 innings vs. his
former mates.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Jayson Werth- has limited exposure to JoJo Reyes but has hit
him well. 4/7 with 3 rbi.

Brad Wilkerson- pounds Silva. 10/18, 3 extras, a jack and 2 rbi.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Conor Jackson (start)- near perfect against Jonathan Sanchez.

Jim Thome (start)- has good swings at Robertson's stuff. 8/17,

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Nick Swisher (sit)- has real problems with Nate the great.

that way. 0/9.

Strategy: PE SP stream Baek was used for SP Mike Pelfrey
when Pelfrey was listed as "probable" around noon yesterday.
Pelfrey is taking Pedro Martinez's spot in the rotation and has
a great matchup vs. the Cards. Big Mike was dropped for Dave
Bush on Saturday. PE will stream on Sunday as well looking to
secure the W point as OP has Josh Beckett going today as the
last start on the OP roster.

Game Keys: PE spot play's Werth/Rowand went a combined
3/7 with 1 run, 1 homer, 1 rbi and 1 steal to help PE take the
lead in SB and BA. OP SP's Sheets and Perez pitched well but
were unable register a W. PE SP Cain was magnificent hurling
a complete game shutout for a W allowing 4 whip and striking
out 4. OP continues to control ERA/WHIP and could wrap up
these points today with an outstanding start from Beckett. PE
could put the finishing touches on W's if Pelfrey stops the Cards
today. K's are firmly in PE's column with Saves still up for grabs
but looking like they'll fall to PE. Essentially, the pitching points
for the week could be decided today. Every offensive category
is still in play as the match heads on to the river with PE holding
a 7-3 lead.

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 24, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Alphonso Soriano was activated yesterday returning
to the top of the Cubs order going 1/5 with a rbi.

Chipper Jones pulled his left hamstring running out a
ground ball. The severity of the injury is not known.

Manny Ramirez was scratched yesterday with a sore
knee. He pronounced himself questionable for the set
against the Yankees over the weekend.

Jerry Hairston Jr. was cleared to begin running and
is likely to be activated when eligible on the 29th.

Joe Crede missed his 2nd consecutive game due to
back pain and is uncertain when he'll be able play
again.

Lastings Milledge is scheduled to return in a day or
2. His performance is worth watching if you need OF
help.

Orlando Hudson is day to day after being struck by a
pitch above the right ankle on Tuesday.

Aaron Harang was ok'd to begin a throwing program
and is likely to return at some point next week.

Chris Young will rejoin the Padres rotation on Tuesday
against the D-Backs.

Fausto Carmona is on track, after a successful bullpen
session, to return to the hill on Saturday vs. the Twins.

Roy Oswalt felt fine after a 40+ pitch bullpen session
where he threw at about 75%. He's going to throw
full out on Friday which will determine whether he
can return as scheduled on the 28th against the Reds.

Kevin Millwood was forced out of yesterday's game
after aggravating a groin injury.

Tim Hudson left the game last night with tightness
in his right elbow.

Jered Weaver's sore back is feeling better and he's
likely to make his next start on Monday vs. Boston.

Pedro Martinez's father passed away after battling
a long illness. Pedro has returned to the Dominican
Republic to be with family.

Billy Wagner returned to close out the Phillies last
night.

Kerry Wood will visit a hand specialist hoping to get
some answers on why a blister on his middle finger
is not healing. He's likely to be placed on the DL.

Brandon Lyon will remain the closer for Arizona for
now. With Rauch in the wings Lyon, seemingly, is
one poor outing away from being demoted to set up.

Joel Hanrahan has been anointed by Manny Acta as
the Nationals closer.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Mike Pelfrey- has pitched well of late especially at home. 1-0,
1.29/1.14 in 7 innings vs. St. Louis and 4-4, 2.35/1.15 in 65
frames at Shea Stadium.

PE Volstad(drop)/Correia-Tue
PE Correia(drop)/Werth-Wed
PE Garciaparra(drop)/Rowand-Wed
PE Rowand(drop)/Carpenter-Thur
PE Werth(drop)/Baek-Thur

Strategy: PE spot plays Aaron Rowand/Jayson Werth were
dropped for SP Chris Carpenter and stream Cha Seung Baek.
As discussed Carpenter was swapped with SP Harang on the
DL. Harang is likely to be activated next week. OP sends SP's
Sheets and Oliver Perez vs. Cain for PE. Neither team has a
closer active. Both teams had a Sunday starter bumped back
until Monday. Each club has 3 starts remaining on the roster.
The game plan for the remainder of the week will be to stream
for W's and hope the offense stays hot.

Game Keys: PE SP's Shields/Correia and 4 closers combined
for 1 W, 2 Saves, allowing 6 earned on 22 whip with 17 k's in
19.1 innings. The big news was the emergence of PE's offense
which went 17/37 to put every offensive category in play. PE
has Rowand/Werth as spot plays today. OP has SP's Sheets/
Oliver Perez on the bump and their performance will determine
if PE has a chance to win a point in ERA/WHIP. The match hits
the mid-point deadlocked at 4-4.

Final Thoughts
:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week
16 took it's toll on all the top teams.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 23, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Billy Wagner's MRI showed that the tightness he felt
in his shoulder was caused by a muscle spasm. He's
day to day. Duaner Sanchez closed for the Mets last
night and promptly blew a save.

Nationals closer Jon Rauch was traded to the D-Backs.
It remains to be seen if Arizona sticks with Brandon
Lyon, who has been terrible of late, or gives Rauch the
opportunity to win the gig.

Speaking of the Nationals, rookie Steve Shell is the only
pitcher on the roster with a save so if you need saves
pay close attention to who Acta uses in the 9th inning
and grab that player immediately. If you must take a
guess to beat the crowd go with Joel Hanrahan.

Pedro Martinez will start either Friday or Saturday vs.
the Cardinals. He threw a 50+ pitch bullpen session with
out any issues related to his shoulder or groin.

Erik Bedard had an MRI on his shoulder which confirmed
the original diagnosis of a shoulder impingement. There's
no word on whether he'll be able to return in August.

Adam Wainwright is progressing. He threw 40 pitches
in a bullpen session and is projected to return in about
3 weeks.

Francisco Liriano had another "monster" start in Triple
A going 7 innings allowing 0 earned on 4 whip with 10 k's.
He has allowed 1 earned run in his last 35 frames with 42
k's.

Jered Weaver left the game last night after 3 innings with
tightness in his back. He's day to day.

Clayton Kershaw got destroyed allowing 5 runs on 13 whip
in 3 innings. He's likely to optioned again for Eric Stults.

Shaun Marcum's return was rocky as he allowed 6 earned
with 11 whip in 4.2 innings. Chalk it up to rust.

Alphonso Soriano fared well in a rehab assignment and
may be activated today.

Torii Hunter was placed on bereavement leave to be
with his ailing grandmother. He may not return until
the weekend. Adjust accordingly.

Juan Pierre will rehab at Triple A Las Vegas beginning
today and could be activated Saturday if all goes well.
The Dodgers OF is going to be overcrowded again so it'll
be interesting to see how Torre manages the situation.

Todd Helton is still not participating in baseball related
activities. There's no timetable in place for his return.

Yunel Escobar returned from a 7 game hiatus rejoining
the Braves lineup going 0/4.

Jermaine Dye sore knee was sufficiently healed to allow
him to start last night. He went 3/4.

Ryan Zimmerman was activated and went 1/3. He could
be a useful source of power at 3B, CI or Util but you will
have to move quickly.

Joe Crede was a late scratch with lower back stiffness.

Orlando Hudson had to leave last night's game after being
hit by a pitch just above his right ankle.

Jeff Clement was replaced by Kenji Johjima after injuring
his right thumb.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Matt Garza- normally a better play at home travels to Kansas
City for a play date. 0-3, 3.42/1.22 with 24 k's in 26 innings
vs. the Royals and 0-1, 1.35/.60 in a 7 inning effort at Kauffman.

Jamie Moyer- has pitched well vs. the Mets and is comfortable
at Shea Stadium. 6-4, 2.77/1.19 in 94 innings against New York.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Melvin Mora- is Doc Halladay's huckleberry. 18/59, 4 extras, 2

David DeJesus- a nemesis for Garza. 5/14 with an extra base hit.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Troy Glaus (start)- hit Sabathia well in the American League.

3 bombs, 7 ribeyes with only 2 k's.

Josh Willingham (sit)- flails against Tim Hudson. 1/15 with 5 k's.

Strategy: PE stream Kevin Correia and spot play Garciaparra
were used for offensive spot plays Aaron Rowand and Jayson
Werth to give PE 5 potential active batters on Thursday. OP
is scheduled to send 6 to the plate as a counter. One of the
spot plays will be used tomorrow for a speculative future play
Chris Carpenter. PE has to hope that Carpenter remains a free
agent for one more day. Harang and Carpenter will swap the
DL tag on an educated guess that Harang will be returning to
active duty next week. The other spot play will be used to
steam for the remainder of the weekend.

Game Keys: PE offense continues to tread water going 7/33
with 4 runs, 3 homers, 4 rbi and 0 steals. This paltry output
was just enough to forge a lead of 1 in Runs and 2 in HR. OP
has solid leads in RBI/BA with SB tied at 0. OP Buehrle had an
outstanding low ERA/WHIP start while gaining a W. OP leads
in those 3 categories with neither side having a Save so far this
week. PE has a 15 K lead. PE has 2 SP's and 4 closers on the
bump vs. closer Lyon and reserve reliever Park for OP today.

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 22, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Billy Wagner will have his shoulder examined today
and an MRI might be required. He experienced a
bit of shoulder tightness during his save on Sunday.

Kerry Wood avoided going on the DL as he waits for
a blister to heal completely. He may throw tomorrow.
Carlos Marmol will close for the Cubs in his absence.

Matt Capps began soft tossing and had no issues. No
timetable has been set for throwing from a mound.

J.J. Putz will likely pitch set up for an outing or 2 to
assure the Mariners that he has command of all of
his pitches.

Rafael Soriano was activated by the Braves and will
certainly be in the mix for saves with Mike Gonzalez.

Clayton Kershaw will start tonight for the Dodgers
against the Rockies.

Fausto Carmona is expected to return to the Indians
rotation this weekend.

Chris Young had a 2nd rehab start pitching 5 innings
allowing 2 runs on 4 whip with 3 k's. He's scheduled
for at least one more outing in the minors before the
Padres will decide whether he's ready to rejoin the
team.

Chris Carpenter was unhappy with his command in
his last rehab start. He'll have another chance this
Friday at Triple A Memphis to sharpen his delivery.

Jeff Francis will have a rehab start today followed
by another on Saturday. He could rejoin the Rockies
rotation on Thursday the 31st.

Pedro Martinez has been long tossing and may throw
from a mound today or tomorrow. He has a chance of
making a start this weekend vs. the Cards.

764. That's the number of innings used that would
keep you on track to deploy maximum innings (1250)
over the course of the season in Rotisserie. A number
significantly above or below should be a call to action.

In an unexpected development Yunel Escobar was
cleared to play yesterday but was not in the starting
lineup. He's going to start today. Check the Braves
box prior to game time to make certain that he's
active.

Jerry Hairston Jr's strained hamstring is improving
and he expects to return next week.

Jorge Posada was placed on the DL with recurring
shoulder problems.

The ongoing saga "The Johnny Damon Chronicles"
had our hero returning to the Yankees as the DH
yesterday. He went 1/4.

Hideki Matsui has opted against having surgery on
his knee but no timetable has been set for his return
to active duty.

Troy Tulowitzki returned to the Rockies in style going
5/5 with a run and rbi.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Kevin Correia- has pitched a little better at home and faces a
manageable opponent. 1-1, 2.55/.96 in 18 innings vs. the Nats.

Doug Davis- always a risky stream but has a great track record
against the Cubs. 7-5, 3.39/1.22 with 86 k's in 85 frames.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Kevin Kouzmanoff- almost perfect vs. Arroyo. 5/6 with 2 extras.

Nomar Garciaparra- in a rush to face Rusch. 6/12 with only 1 k.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Adam Dunn (sit)- has trouble with Peavy. 3/18 with 7 k's

Strategy: PE SS Yunel Escobar was cleared to play last night
but inexplicably was not in the starting lineup. Unfortunately
SS spot play Garciaparra was also on the bench last night. OP
picked up an additional start with Buehrle's start being moved
up to today giving him an added start on Sunday. PE countered
with dropping Volstad for SP Kevin Correia looking for a W. PE
should control Saves and K's but has to take W's to have a shot
at a successful week. If Escobar does play the Garciaparra spot
will become a flex play that may be used for Chris Carpenter.
Carpenter would be swapped for Harang on the DL anticipating
Harang's return to the Reds rotation next week. Carpenter may
be quite useful for the stretch run and the playoffs. The Morrow
/Putz situation is still muddled.

Game Keys: PE SP Harden and stream Volstad combined for
13 innings allowing 7 runs on 17 whip with 13 k's but could not
register a W. PE Cordero blew up again in a save chance lasting
only .2 innings while yielding 3 earned on 5 whip. In what has
been a recurring theme OP offense was outstanding going 11/20
with 5 runs, 2 homers and 8 rbi. PE was no match with a typical
performance that included 4 runs, a jack and 4 rbi on a pedestrian
8/31. Both teams have one SP and a full compliment on offense
playing today.

Final Thoughts
:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week

Fantasy Player's Edge

July 21, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Billy Wagner will have his shoulder examined today
after experiencing tightness while earning a save vs.
the Reds.

Troy Percival was activated by the Rays yesterday.

Chris Carpenter was impressive in a Double A start
going 4 innings and allowing only 1 hit.

Jose Contreras was placed on the DL with right elbow
tendinitis.

Brad Penny threw a 40 pitch bullpen session without
a setback and is scheduled for another side session on
Tuesday. No timetable has been set for a rehab start.

Adam Wainwright will visit with team doctors today in
St. Louis and if all goes well could begin a program that
will enable him to return to the bigs by early August.

Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols were both out of their
respective starting lineups. No worries as the sluggers
were just being rested.

Alphonso Soriano begins a rehab assignment today with
an eye towards being activated on Thursday.

Jermaine Dye left yesterday's game after being hit on
the right knee by a pitch. X-rays were negative but he's
likely to miss a couple of games.

Todd Helton is now said to be several weeks away from
being able to return from a strained lower back.

Adam Jones sat out with a sore ankle and is day to day.

Josh Willingham was benched with a sore wrist but was
available to pinch hit.

Johnny Damon remained on the DL and the thought now
is that he may need a minor league rehab assignment.

Troy Tulowitzki is expected to be activated today by the
Rockies.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Joe Blanton- will pay immediate dividends for the Phillies. 1-0,
0.00/.60 in 15 innings vs. the Mets and 0-0, 0.00/.75 with 6 k's
in 8 frames at Shea Stadium.

Darrell Rasner- pitches well at Yankees Stadium. 1-1, 3.97/1.24
with 7 k's in 11 innings against the Twins.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Craig Counsell- hits Kyle Lohse very well. 8/16, 3 extras, a jack
with 2 rbi.

Mark Grudzielanek- holds all the aces vs. the Gambler. 12/20,
7 mults, 2 clouts and 5 rbi against Rogers.

Daily Activity:

PE Baek(drop)/Garciaparra-Sun
PE Pelfrey(drop)/Volstad-Sun

Strategy: PE's roster is an absolute shambles. Hopefully this
week Harang, Wood/Escobar will return to active duty while
the Putz/Morrow situation will be clarified. PE will begin the
week with a selective streaming strategy and adjust as the
week wears on. PE will send SP Harden and stream Volstad
with 4 closers vs. Lyon for OP today. OP SP Park has been
relegated to the bullpen leaving OP with only 5 starts on the
roster. PE has 7 starts with Volstad and could stream to 10
or more if necessary. PE with Garciaparra will send 8 to the
plate on Monday vs. a possible 7 for OP. PE stream Volstad
may be retained if his start is outstanding and Morrow will
be used later in the week as a flex position for spot plays or
streams.

Game Keys: OP Pettitte was brilliant registering a W while
allowing only 1 earned on 4 whip with 9 k's. PE streams Baek
/Pelfrey were just fair allowing 6 earned on 14 whip with only
7 k's in 13.1 innings. Neither could register a W allowing OP
to tie the category while holding on to the K's point. OP also
was able to tie WHIP on a perfect inning from Rodriguez in
the late game. PE took SB's behind Braun and Young but lost
the week 5-3. In actuality it could have been much worse as
PE was mediocre in every category.

Final Thoughts
:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week
16 took it's toll on all the top teams.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
