Fantasy Player's Edge

June 9, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

The Cards rotation will take quite a hit this week as
Wainwright and Wellemeyer will miss turns. The
Wainwright finger injury may prove to be the more
problematic of the 2 and require a stint on the DL.

Chipper Jones has a small tear in his right quad which
forced him to sit yesterday. There's speculation that
he'll miss a couple of games of the upcoming Cubs series.
His owners are hoping that is all it is as Jones would be
near impossible to replace in fantasy lineups if he's out
for an extended period.

Ryan Church has been officially shutdown as he deals
with a concussion. He'll probably need a stay on the
DL to assure a complete recovery.

Rick Ankiel should finally return to the Cards lineup
on Tuesday in Chicago. He's been battling an infected
knee.

Xavier Nady is likely to return today against Arizona.
He's been dealing with swelling in his left ankle.

Matt Holliday and Moises Alou will be activated on
Tuesday. Alou is a very good hitter and could add
bench depth but expectations need to be reasonable
as he has been unable to stay healthy over the past
few seasons.

Josh Willingham took BP and was hitting without any
lingering effects from his lower back problems. He'll
most likely take another round of BP and if there are
no setbacks the Hammer will begin a rehab assignment
mid-week. He was scheduled to return around the All
Star break but it now appears that he could be in full
swing for the Fish by the beginning of next week.

Interleague play begins next Friday. Plan for it as DH's
for the Yankees, Red Sox, Texas, Minnesota, Oakland
and Kansas City could miss some or all of the weekend's
action. Johnny Damon/Hideki Matsui owners may be
the most impacted by the loss of the DH. With Ortiz out
and the other clubs not having a fantasy stud at DH the
impact of mixed league play should be minimal on fantasy
offenses.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Patrick Misch- is arguably the best of a weak group of streaming
candidates for Tuesday. 0-0, 3.72/1.34 with 6 k's in 10 innings
vs. Colorado. The game is in Denver while young Misch typically
fares better at home.

There are no other acceptable streaming opportunities for Tuesday.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Alexi Casilla- Sabathia cannot get much of anything by this
youngster. 8/9, 2 extras and a stolen base.

Jose Guillen- if his swollen shin permits he has a favorable
date with Millwood. 9/25, a jack and 7 big rbi.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Ken Griffey (start)- hits long, soft toss lefties really well. 5/8 with
a homer and 3 ribbies against Hendrickson.

Michael Cuddyer (start)- spanks Danks regularly. 5/9 and a stolen
base.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only.

Jason Bay (sit)- does not hit long, hard toss lefties very well.
2/10 with 5 k's vs. Randy Johnson.

Cliff Lee (sit)- has been faltering of late with a 6.56/1.89 over
his last 23 innings. 3-6, 5.23/1.52 in 76 frames vs. Detroit.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Justin Masterson (stream)- W 6ip/1e/6w/4k

Jason Marquis (stream)- W 6.1ip/0e/4w/2k

Freddy Sanchez (spot)- 1/3, run

Coco Crisp (spot)- 1/3, run

Jeff Kent (start)- 0/4

Kevin Youkilis (start)- 0/3

Bobby Crosby (sit)- 1/4

Vlad Guerrero (sit)- 1/5, homer, 2 rbi

Strategy: After reviewing the spot plays for today Alexi
Casilla was added yesterday for Freddy Sanchez. PE will
send 6 on offense vs. a full compliment of 9 for OP. PE has
the only SP going in Cain. OP will have 2 closers active to
only Cordero for PE. OP will start week 11 with advantages
offensively and in save opportunities. PE has 8 pitching starts
on the roster compared to 6 for OP and will selectively stream
this week keeping an eye on the Kemp suspension which will
most certainly be enforced this week. Ubaldo Jimenez will most
likely be the 1st stream of the week on Wednesday. There's a
chance that Figgins will play over the weekend so the roster
problem would be solved if Chone is activated and Kemp serves
his suspension late in the week. PE's core rotation of Harang,
Cain, Shields, Harden, Weaver and Martinez has produced very
little over the past 4 weeks. Unless this group gets going PE will
have a difficult time gaining a top seed for the playoffs.

Game Keys: PE sent 5 SP's (2 streamers) to the hill and got
2 W's from the streamers (Masterson/Floyd) to secure a very
hard earned point. The rest of the match remained status quo
which enabled PE to escape with a 6-4 victory. PE is glad to see
this OP offense go as they hit 2 more jacks and had 7 rbi during
Sunday's finale.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 6 points out of 1st and 1.5 out of 2nd place
heading into week 11 which is the midway mark of the 2008 Head
to Head regular season.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
