Fantasy Player's Edge

June 16, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Todd Wellemeyer is experiencing soreness in his forearm
and elbow. At the minimum it sounds like he'll miss a
turn but more likely will end up on the DL.

Chien-Mien Wang sprained his foot running the bases in
the Yankees blowout win over Houston. He'll have an
MRI today and Girardi said he'd be shocked if Wang
took his next turn.

Eric Gagne threw 25 pitches off a mound and said that
he was about 90%. Yost claims that he's sticking with
Torres as his closer. Gagne was dreadful in a set up
role for the Red Sox last season and would have to be
considered trade bait for the Brewers. Maybe they
could get some bats for him.

Manny Ramirez sat again yesterday but is expected
back today vs. Philadelphia.

Paul Konerko is struggling with a strained oblique. He
took another day off yesterday and may be headed to
the DL.

Gary Sheffield begins a rehab assignment at Single A
Lakeland and could rejoin the Tigers in a few days if
he's up to it.

Hank Blalock begins a rehab assignment for Triple A
Oklahoma today. He could rejoin the Rangers by the
end of the week.

Interleague play continues next week. Plan for it as DH's
for the Red Sox, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City
and the A's could miss some or all of the weekend's action.
With Ortiz out and the other clubs not having a fantasy
stud at DH the impact of mixed league play should be
minimal on fantasy offenses.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Garrett Olsen- has never faced the Astros but is superman at
Camden Yards. 3-0, 2.66/1.27 with 21 k's in 24 innings.

Jonathan Sanchez- here's another young gun with no track
record vs. this opponent. 2-1, 2.74/1.27 with 43 k's in 43
frames at home this year. The Tigers can hit but Sanchez
has been ultra sharp in his ballpark.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Julio Lugo- appreciates Moyer's soft tosses. 7/14, 3 extras, 2 rbi
and a stolen base vs. the crafty lefthander.

Rich Aurilia- has had good success vs. the Gambler. 6/17, 4 extras,
2 jacks and 8 rbi against Rogers.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Todd Helton (start)- has only faced Jurrjens once. 2/3 with
an extra base hit.

Kelly Johnson (start)- limited exposure to Ubaldo Jimenez
but fared well in that appearance. 2/4 with 2 steals.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Mark Teixeira (sit)- has yet to connect for anything vs.
Jimenez. 0/5 with 2 k's.

Luis Castillo (sit)- lackluster against Jered Weaver thus
far. 1/6.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Jose Contreras (stream)- L 6.2ip/3e/9w/4k

Jorge Campillo (stream)- L 8ip/2e/7w/7k

Kevin Millwood (stream)- W 6ip/2e/9w/5k

Richie Sexson (spot)- DNP

Ronnie Belliard (spot)- 1/5

Scott Rolen (start)- 0/2

Bill Hall (start)- DNP-pinch hit

Matt Holliday (sit)- 1/3, rbi

Troy Glaus (sit)- 2/5, homer, run, 2 rbi

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Gomez(drop)/Olson-Mon

Strategy: Week 12 begins with a deficit in pitching starts.
Figgins seems healthy so Gomez was dropped for Garrett
Olson on Tuesday. OP has 1 SP, 2 closers and 5 potential
starters on offense. PE counters with 1 SP, 2 closers and 4
possible starters active on offense. Olson will give PE an
equal number of starts for the week with 8.

Game Keys
: There were lots of moving parts to follow in
Sunday's finale to week 11. OP Owings blew up allowing
7 earned on 10 whip in 5.1 innings with only 4 k's. This
would be OP's only pitching for the day leaving K, ERA
and WHIP with PE. PE closers could only muster 1 save
so the Saves point remained with OP. On offense PE was
able to secure the point for SB while dropping the point in
RBI by 1. There was a feeling of disappointment in losing
RBI to OP on a 2 run homer by Kotchman in the late game
but realistically OP had 14 homers to 4 for PE and outhit
PE .299 to .216. The match ended in a 5-5 draw enabling
PE to gain a bit of ground on the 1st and 2nd place teams.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 4.5 points out of 1st and 1 out of
2nd place with the regular season half over.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
