Fantasy Player's Edge

June 19, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Carlos Zambrano will have an MRI to determine the
cause of the discomfort in his right shoulder that had
him leave last night's game in the 7th inning.

The Twins brass has decided that Francisco Liriano will
remain at Triple A Rochester until mid-July. They want
to be certain that he's right before calling him up.

Rafael Soriano may be activated on Saturday when he's
eligible to come off the DL. This has been an impossible
situation to get a read on so owners have to handcuff
Mike Gonzalez to be certain of getting the Braves saves.

Manny Ramirez felt a twinge in his right hamstring and
sat out yesterday's game against the Phils. He might
have been able to DH but the game was in Philadelphia.

Coco Crisp left the Phillies game early with an injured left
hand. He's day to day. If he's going to be out a few days
the Red Sox may opt to have him serve his pending 7
game suspension.

Hideki Matsui was rested due to a swollen left knee. He's
currently day to day.

Milton Bradley sat out with a strained quad. Additional
details regarding the severity of the injury should be
made available today.

Eric Byrnes will begin a rehab assignment today with an
eye towards returning on Monday vs. the Red Sox.

Carlos Pena broken finger is healing nicely and he could
return to active duty by the end of the month.

Troy Tulowitzki is raking in the minors and should return
to the Rockies on Friday.

Jeff Clement has been handed the Mariners catching job.
Kenji Johjima has been relegated to Clement's backup
and has no fantasy value.

Interleague play continues this week. Plan for it as DH's
for Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Seattle, Texas,
the Angels and the White Sox could miss some or all of the
weekend action. Thome owners and spot players Stairs,
Vidro, Huff and Matthews will be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Matt Garza- has no history vs. the Astros but has been
studly at Tropicana Field this season. 4-0, 2.19/1.17
over 37 innings at home.

Scott Baker- has also fared very well at home. He faces
the D-Backs for the first time. 1-0, 2.49/.92 at home
this year.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Angel Berroa- staggers Cliff Lee. 11/32 with 3 extras and
a steal.

Mark Ellis- very effective against the big Marlins lefthander.
4/8, 3 jacks, 6 rbi and a steal vs. Hendrickson.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Scott Rolen (start)- has very limited exposure to Dave
Bush but hit him solidly when they met last season.
2/5, an extra base hit and 3 rbi.

Jeff Kent (start)- harasses Harang. 6/19, 3 extras, 2
clouts and 5 ribbies.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Eric Chavez (sit)- has not figured out Doug Davis. 2/16
with 4 k's.

Jhonny Peralta (sit)- makes De La Rosa look like he's
all world. 2/13 with 7 k's.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Darrell Rasner (stream)- W 5ip/2e/8w/4k

Kyle Kendrick (stream)- L 3ip/6e/8w/4k

Felipe Lopez (spot)- Hernandez-DNP

Jason Michaels (spot)- 0/4

Placido Polanco (start)- 4/4, 3 runs, 2 rbi

James Loney (start)- 2/3, run, homer, 2 rbi

Magglio Ordonez (sit)- 1/4, rbi

Scott Rolen (sit)- 2/5

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Gomez(drop)/Olson-Mon
PE Olson(drop)/Rasner-Tues
PE Rasner(drop)/Davis-Wed

Strategy: PE has a full dance card with 3 SP's and 4
closers on the hill today. OP will start 2 closers with 0
SP's. PE will not stream again until Friday for Saturday
as all the roster spots are filled with 2 SP's and 5 closers
for Friday. Davis will be used for Paul Maholm who has
a favorable start at home vs. the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Both teams have 7 active on offense but PE Griffey will
sit again today partly due to a stomach virus but mostly
because a lefthander is pitching for the Dodgers.

Game Keys: OP Oliver Perez and Shaun Marcum were
ineffective going a combined 12 innings with 8 earned and
20 whip. PE Rasner was mediocre but was credited with a
W while Fuentes added a save to PE's column. OP and PE
offenses are basically in lock step as the match hits the mid-
point. The contest is deadlocked at 4-4 with PE having a
distinct advantage in active pitching while OP will probably
have 1 additional hitter today.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 4.5 points out of 1st and 1 out of
2nd place with the regular season half over.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
