Fantasy Player's Edge

June 27, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Albert Pujols was activated by the Cards. Albert the
Great played DH and went 4/4 with an rbi.

On a lesser note Xavier Nady also returned to action.
Ultimately the game was rained out but Nady appears
good to go.

Kosuke Fukudome missed a second consecutive game
with tightness in his calf. He's day to day.

Johnny Damon couldn't walk 2 days ago but was in the
Yankees lineup last night and stole a base. It's a miracle!

Hideki Matsui sat out again last night with a sore knee.
He's scheduled to be examined today and he'll either be
cleared to play or placed on the DL. Stay tuned.

Josh Hamilton (knee) and Milton Bradley (quad) were
in the Rangers starting lineup last night. Josh was hit
on the left hand by a pitch in the 1st inning and had to
leave the game an inning later while Milton chimed in
with a pedestrian 1/3. Hamilton's x-ray was negative.
He's day to day.

Chris Davis was brought up by the Rangers to play 1B.
It seems the club grew weary of waiting on Hank Blalock.
Davis had 23 homers and 73 rbi in Double and Triple A
this season. He might be worth a flyer if your roster is
in need of power.

Carlos Zambrano threw off flat ground yesterday and
if he feels no pain will pitch a bullpen session on Sunday.
He's eligible to be activated from the DL against the
Cardinals on 4th of July weekend.

Shaun Hill was placed on the DL with forearm soreness
even though tests showed that he has no structural
damage.

Ian Snell takes a trip to the DL with a strained elbow.

Troy Percival is still being bothered by a sore hamstring.
He wants to pitch through the discomfort but Maddon
may decide not to pitch Percy on consecutive days until
he's healed completely.

J.J. Putz will not return until after the All Star Break. If
Brandon Morrow can stay healthy he'll close for Seattle
until Putz returns.

Interleague play concludes this weekend. Plan for it as
DH's for Baltimore, Seattle, Tampa Bay, the Red Sox,
the Yankees and the Angels could miss some or all of
the weekend's action. Damon, Matsui and Giambi owners
and spot players Floyd, Vidro, Huff and Matthews may
be adversely impacted.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Paul Byrd- has had great success vs. the Reds over the
years. 4-1, 3.04/1.33 with 34 k's in 50 innings.

Kyle Davies- was rocked in his last outing but bounces
back vs. the Cards on the road. 1-0, 1.29/1.14 over 7
innings against St. Louis and 2-0, 1.32/1.17 in 12 frames
on the road this year.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

8/20, 5 extras, 2 clouts and 6 rbi.

Craig Counsell- will get a start today against Livan Hernandez.
17/42, 2 mults, 4 rbi and a couple of steals.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Pedro Martinez (start)- it might take the sight of Yankees
pinstripes to get Pedro going. 11-10, 3.03/1.05 in 211 frames
vs the Bombers and 8-4, 2.35/.98 in 110 innings at Yankees
Stadium.

Stephen Drew (start)- hasn't seen Nolasco often but has hit
him when he has. 3/6 with 2 jacks.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Daily Activity:

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed
PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur
PE Nolasco(drop)/Byrd-Fri

Strategy: PE stream Nolasco was used for Paul Byrd.
OP surprisingly did not activate Loney/Ludwick who
went a combined 0/9. OP has Myers today but has him
inactive so it remains to be seen whether he makes the
roster shuffle. OP is in 1st place, has made 24 transactions
year to date and actively manages this team weekly so
this inactivity is out of character. OP Hamilton returned
last night only to leave after being hit on the hand by a
pitch in the 1st inning. He's day to day. PE Escobar is
still uncertain for tonight's game. PE sends 2 SP's to the
hill looking to increase the advantage in W's and K's.

Game Keys: PE SP's Harden/Cain and stream Danks
combined for 2 W's with 4 earned, 21 whip and 18 k's
over 19 innings. Harden was brilliant, Cain mediocre
and Danks somewhere in between. PE closed the gap
in ERA/WHIP but there's still only a remote chance
that PE could earn either of those points. PE leads by
3 W's and 27 K's. The lead in Saves of 1 is worrisome.
Neither offense could generate any promotable stats
last night. All categories remained status quo as PE
continues to hold a tenuous 7-2 lead heading into the
turn.

Final Thoughts
:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
