Fantasy Player's Edge

June 11, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Jake Peavy returns to action on Thursday against the
Dodgers.

Tom Glavine was added to the DL yesterday with a
strained left elbow.

Francisco Liriano's string of quality starts continued
for Triple A Rochester yesterday with a 6 inning stint
where he allowed 1 earned on 7 whip with 7 k's. The
Twins braintrust should be considering bringing the
southpaw back to the majors although that's merely
performance based speculation at this time.

Josh Johnson is ahead of schedule with his rehab from
Tommy John surgery. The big Marlins righthander has
talent but he's only pitched on a limited basis during the
past 2 seasons. Keep an eye on his work in the minors
as they expect him to return around the All Star break
which is July 14-16.

Curt Schilling threw 40 pitches from a mound yesterday
and will throw from a mound in Cincinnati on Friday. He's
close to facing live hitters in BP. Stay tuned.

Dreadful Dontrelle Willis has been optioned to Single A
Lakeland. There's absolutely no reason to keep him on
your roster regardless of what he did 4 years ago.

Albert Pujols was helped off the field last night after he
reinjured his left calf running out a ground ball. It's very
likely that he'll be placed on the DL today.

Rafael Furcal has been shutdown for 2 more weeks by his
doctors. Nomar Garciaparra is expected to go on a rehab
assignment shortly where he'll work out at SS.

Seemingly Adam Dunn is playing with some type of
discomfort but neither he nor the Reds will reveal what
is actually bothering him. Be aware and check the Reds
box for the next several days to assure that he's active
before using him.

Jacoby Ellsbury laced them up last night going 1/5 with
a run. Coco Crisp is facing a 7 game suspension so Ellz's
return is right on time.

Rick Ankiel returned to the Cards starting lineup last
night going 1/5 with a solo homer.

Interleague play begins next Friday. Plan for it as DH's
for the Yankees, Red Sox, Texas, Minnesota, Oakland
and Kansas City could miss some or all of the weekend's
action. Johnny Damon/Hideki Matsui owners may be
the most impacted by the loss of the DH. With Ortiz out
and the other clubs not having a fantasy stud at DH the
impact of mixed league play should be minimal on fantasy
offenses.

Streamers
: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Hiroki Kuroda- his last start was a complete game shutout
with 11 k's vs. the hard hitting Cubs. He travels to San Diego
to face a much softer opponent. 1-0, 1.29/.43 over 7 frames
against the Padres at Petco.

Tom Gorzelanny- it's very hard to trust him this season but
he has a favorable matchup at home where he's pitched a
little better in the past. 1-0, 2.45/1.09 in 7 innings vs. the
Nationals.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Ty Wigginton- might as well be Babe Ruth to Ben Sheets.
12/26, 4 extras, 2 jacks, 7 rbi and a stolen base against
the Brewers ace.

Eric Chavez- has a solid track record of hitting Pettitte.
6/13, 2 mults and a stolen base.

Start/Sit
: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Jermaine Dye (start)- 2nd day in a row to "start" Dye.
10/27, 4 extras, 3 blasts and 5 ribbies against Verlander.

Todd Helton (start)- been schooling young Lincecum for
a couple of seasons. 6/9, a homer and 0 k's.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only.

Paul Konerko (sit)- Paulie "Cashews" may ask Guillen for
a night off. 3/24 with 8 k's against Verlander.

B.J. Upton (sit)- is definitely John's lackie. 1/10 with 3 k's
vs. the Angels ace.

Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)

Patrick Misch (stream)- L 4ip/4e/7w/3k

Alexi Casilla (spot)- 1/4

Jose Guillen (spot)- 3/5, run, rbi

Jermaine Dye (start)- 0/4

Jeff Kent (start)- 1/5, run

Jeremy Hermida (sit)- 0/3, run

Nick Swisher (sit)- 1/3

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Cuddyer(drop)/Jimenez-Tue
PE Jimenez(drop)/Kuroda-Wed

Strategy: Ubaldo Jimenez was used to add Hiroki Kuroda
for Thursday. PE will continue to use selective streaming
to augment the week 11 pitching rotation, however, Kuroda
could be the last stream this week for PE if the lead in W's
can be extended. PE would use the pitching flex position to
add a spot closer like Alan Embree, who might be filling in
for Street or Braves lefty Mike Gonzalez to "fish" for a lucky
save. Figgins should be activated by the Angels on Friday
and will give PE the added flexibility on offense to offset
the impending loss of Kemp to suspension. The current
roster spot occupied by Alexi Casilla will be used for Chone
on Friday.

Game Keys: The OP offense and pitching have held serve
for another day going 12/34 with 9 runs, 3 homers, 6 rbi and
2 steals while PE failed to register a single save. PE offense is
sputtering but did have 7 rbi to continue to control that point.
OP leads by an amazing 13 runs after only 2 days of competing.
Additionally OP has a considerable lead in BA and is ahead by 3
in HR and SB. PE SP had another W last night to lead by 2 and
has a comfortable lead in K's with 7 starts remaining for the week
to 5 for OP. PE leads in ERA/WHIP but it's too early to project
an outcome. OP continues to lead in Saves, 2-0. The match is
all even at 5-5.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 6 points out of 1st and 1.5 out of 2nd place
heading into week 11 which is the midway mark of the 2008 Head
to Head regular season.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
