Roster Shuffle:
Chris Carpenter is experiencing soreness in his right elbow
which will most certainly delay his return this season. He
was expected to join the Cards around the All Star break.
Jason Isringhausen was activated by the Cards yesterday.
He's likely to resume his role as the closer sooner rather
than later.
Brad Penny has left the team to be examined in Los Angeles.
He's been suffering from discomfort in his throwing shoulder.
Plan for him to be placed on the DL.
Rafael Soriano has been placed, once again, on the DL for
soreness in his elbow. Unless they can find the cause it's
likely that he'll have to undergo exploratory surgery to
isolate the issues causing the pain.
Fausto Carmona is progressing nicely and is likely to join
the Tribe rotation around the 23rd if there are no setbacks
during his rehab assignment.
Chase Headley's call up by the Padres is imminent. Chase
could be useful if you need OF help as he was hitting .305
with 13 jacks and 40 rbi in 65 games at Triple A Portland.
Vernon Wells reinjured his wrist and had to leave the game
against the Cubs in the 7th inning. He's listed as day to day.
Xavier Nady left last night's contest with a shoulder injury
after crashing into the outfield wall chasing a foul ball. More
information should be available today on the extent of the
injury.
Eric Byrnes is acing all of his baseball activities and should
be recalled sometime next week.
Nomar Garciaparra will start his rehab assignment at Triple
A Las Vegas on Tuesday. He'll probably stay throughout the
week returning to the Dodgers to play shortstop the following
week.
Josh Willingham will likely rejoin the "Fish" when they return
home on June 24th to face the Rays.
Willy Taveras stole 5 bases last night.
Interleague play continues next week. Plan for it as DH's
for the Red Sox, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City
and the A's could miss some or all of the weekend's action.
With Ortiz out and the other clubs not having a fantasy
stud at DH the impact of mixed league play should be
minimal on fantasy offenses.
Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)
Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.
Carlos Silva- is at best a weak streaming candidate to begin
the week. 1-2, 2.90/1.23 in 31 innings vs. the Marlins.
There are no other advisable streaming candidates for Monday.
Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)
Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.
Willy Taveras- hit Jurrjens the only time he faced him. 2/4.
Jose Vidro- faced Andrew Miller last year when Miller was
in Detroit. 3/3.
Start/Sit: (today)
Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.
Scott Rolen (start)- saw a little bit of Ted Lilly when Scotty
was with division rival St. Louis. 3/9, 2 extras and 3 rbi.
Bill Hall (start)- should get a start at 2B for the Brew Crew
vs. Scott Baker. 3/9, 3 mults, 2 blasts with 5 rbi.
Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.
Normally sit these players in Roto formats only
Matt Holliday (sit)- hasn't seen Contreras often but when
he has it's not gone well. 0/6 with 3 k's.
Troy Glaus (sit)- has struggled mightily vs. Brett Myers.
1/7, with 3 k's.
Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)
Matt Garza (stream)- W 7ip/1e/4w/3k
Jorge Campillo (stream)- pitches tonight
Wily Mo Pena (spot)- 2/4
Brad Wilkerson (spot)- 2/4
Edgar Renteria (start)- 2/4, 2 runs, rbi
Aaron Rowand (start)- 1/4
Jose Guillen (sit)- 2/4, 2 runs/ 2 rbi
Eric Chavez (sit)- 0/4

Daily Activity:
PE Cuddyer(drop)/Jimenez-Tue
PE Jimenez(drop)/Kuroda-Wed
PE Kuroda(drop)/Morrow-Thur
PE Casilla(drop)/Pierre-Thur
OP Jurrjens(drop)/Scherzer-Thur
PE Pierre(drop)/Figgins-Sun
Strategy: OP Roy Halladay had a solid outing allowing
only 2 earned in 5 innings with 5 strikeouts but he did
yield 8 whip. PE used only closers missing out on a great
start by Harden. PE had a save but gave up a run on 4
whip in 2 innings with 4 k's. PE now leads in K's by 15
with OP having one SP and 3 closers going today. PE will
send 5 closers in a last ditch effort to make up a 3 save
differential. PE has a decision to make regarding whether
to start Griffey for Pierre as the RBI point is surprisingly
tied while PE leads SB by 3. Pierre was dropped this today
to activate Figgins for Monday. Carlos Gomez will be gone
on Monday if Chone proves that he's healthy. He stole a
base last night. Spot closer Morrow will be retained to give
PE 2 closers to begin week 12. PE has only 7 starts on the
roster so it's likely that either Gomez or Morrow will be
used on Monday to stream a pitcher for Tuesday. Week
12 OP has 4 closers so it would be preferable to retain
Morrow for the entire week. It all depends on whether
Figgins is deemed to be healthy. PE will have 4 active on
offense for Monday as the MLB schedule is abbreviated
with only 5 games on tap.
Week 12 OP has plenty of power on offense with Howard
and Fielder plus a supporting cast that features Markakis,
Hart, Beltre, Francoeur and Orlando Hudson. Additionally
OP has 4 closers including Valverde and Lidge and a solid
rotation of Verlander, Bedard, C.C. Sabathia, Oliver Perez,
Marcum and Billingsley. OP has 8 starts on the roster with
Verlander and Billingsley having 2 each. OP will have 5
offensive starters active on Monday. PE defeated this OP
7-2 in Week 1.
Game Keys: Sunday's finale sets up as a play for SB, K's,
Saves, ERA and surprisingly RBI. PE offense had 10 rbi to
3 for OP yesterday to tie the category. OP has an advantage
in AB's as Murphy/Kinsler will play a doubleheader due to
a rainout. PE will probably start Griffey over Pierre to make
a run at RBI. OP has an SP and 3 closers with PE starting 5
closers. PE has a 5-4 lead heading into today's interesting
endgame.
Final Thoughts:
PE remains in 3rd place 6 points out of 1st and 1.5 out of 2nd
place with the regular season about to be half over.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
All Done!
