Fantasy Player's Edge

June 13, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Brandon Webb has what he's termed a "dead" arm. He
only threw 58 pitches over 5 innings on Wednesday
before being removed leading to speculation regarding
his arm. His next start will come with 5 days rest which
should help.

Fausto Carmona threw 35 pitches off a mound, without
issue, in a bullpen session. He's scheduled to throw 50
pitches on Saturday which could be followed by a rehab
assignment beginning next week.

J.J. Putz has a hyperextended elbow and will sit out the
weekend play. He's may have to be disabled. Brandon
Morrow would be the saves beneficiary if Putz is gone
for an extended period.

Jason Isringhausen could be activated at anytime during
the weekend. It's highly likely that he'll resume closing
for the Cards in short order.

Troy Percival is scheduled to be activated from the DL
today.

James Shields has begun serving his 6 game suspension
and will return to the mound for the Rays vs. the Cubs
on Thursday the 19th.

Chone Figgins will return to the Angels lineup from the
DL today.

Victor Martinez will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his
injured elbow on Friday. He's going to be out for about 2
months. He shouldn't be difficult to replace as V-Mart
has had a sub-par year to date. Ryan Doumit would be
the obvious choice, if available, to spot for Martinez.

Josh Willingham's timetable for return to the Marlins has
been set at 10-14 days.

Matt Kemp had his suspension for fighting reduced from 4
games to 2. He began serving yesterday so he's eligible to
return to the Dodgers on Saturday.

Interleague play begins next Friday. Plan for it as DH's
for the Yankees, Red Sox, Texas, Minnesota, Oakland
and Kansas City could miss some or all of the weekend's
action. Johnny Damon/Hideki Matsui owners may be
the most impacted by the loss of the DH. With Ortiz out
and the other clubs not having a fantasy stud at DH the
impact of mixed league play should be minimal on fantasy
offenses.

Daily Activity:

PE Cuddyer(drop)/Jimenez-Tue
PE Jimenez(drop)/Kuroda-Wed
PE Kuroda(drop)/Morrow-Thur
PE Casilla(drop)/Pierre-Thur
OP Jurrjens(drop)/Scherzer-Thur

Strategy: Game strategy is rather straight forward at this
point in the match. The only remaining decision will revolve
around K's and the possible use of one or more remaining SP's.
PE leads the category by 17 with OP having Joba Chamberlain,
Halladay and Owings still active over the weekend. OP added
Scherzer for Jurrjens increasing the opportunity for k's. Based
on tonight's pitching results PE will decide whether to start any
of Saturday's SP's which features Harden, Cain and Martinez.
The hope is that Chamberlain allows a few runs tonight to afford
PE a bit of breathing room in ERA/WHIP. Harang will be benched
tonight vs. the BoSox. Pierre will start for Kemp who's serving a
2 game suspension. Figgins will not be activated by PE because
it is thought that the Angels will not ask him to run too much for
at least a game or 2 upon his return to their lineup this evening.
PE is playing exclusively for the SB point which is the only one
that's still in play on offense.

Game Keys: OP SP Olsen and closers Soria and Brian Wilson
were terrific last night combining for 9 innings allowing 1 earned
on 7 whip while fanning 10. PE got a W, 3 shutout innings and 5
k's from Wood/Cordero to keep the ERA/WHIP points on the PE
ledger. OP has complete control of all the offensive categories with
the exception of steals which PE tied last night thanks to a pair of
swipes by Braun. OP leads saves by 5 and has narrowed the gap
appreciably in K's, ERA and WHIP. The contest sits at 5-4 in favor
of OP heading into the turn with PE scuffling to hold onto the 3
pitching points that are now in play.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 6 points out of 1st and 1.5 out of 2nd place
heading into week 11 which is the midway mark of the 2008 Head
to Head regular season.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
