Fantasy Player's Edge

June 26, 2008

Roster Shuffle
:

Albert Pujols may be activated today by the Cards.

Ryan Braun has been getting treatment for an injured
hand over the last week. He's probably not going to
miss any time as long as it doesn't get aggravated but
it's worth watching.

Josh Hamilton sat out last night with a sore knee. He's
day to day.

Kosuke Fukudome was scratched due to tightness in
his calf.

David Ortiz is hitting off a tee which is an important 1st
step to beginning a rehab assignment. So far so good.

Kevin Youkilis returned last night from a brief hiatus
caused by a throw that hit him in the eye. Youk went
1/4.

Brandon Inge was placed on the DL with a strained
oblique.

Nomar Garciaparra intends to begin a rehab assignment
next week. The Edge will believe it when it happens.

Johnny Damon may avoid a stint on the DL as his sore
arch is feeling a little better.

Yunel Escobar sat out yesterday with a sore shoulder.
He's day to day and is expected to return on Friday vs.
the Blue Jays.

Jerry Hairston Jr. will be activated today and will likely
play SS with Keppinger playing 3B. Encarnacion is out
so this will help the Reds immediately.

Carlos Pena is expected to rejoin the Rays in Pittsburgh
on Friday.

Felix Hernandez will miss his start on Sunday due to a
sore ankle. Erik Bedard hopes to be able to take that
turn as his back spasms have subsided enough to allow
Bedard to resume throwing again.

Shawn Hill has been awful for almost the entire season.
He's heading to the Mayo Clinic to get an opinion on the
chronic pain he's experienced in his forearm and elbow
all year. As bad as the Nationals are you would think
that they would shelve Hill until he's painfree.

Brad Penny threw off a mound yesterday for the 1st
time since being placed on the DL. The session went
well enough for Penny to pitch a simulated game on
Saturday.

Interleague play concludes this weekend. Plan for it as
DH's for Baltimore, Seattle, Tampa Bay, the Red Sox,
the Yankees and the Angels could miss some or all of
the weekend's action. Damon, Matsui and Giambi owners
and spot players Floyd, Vidro, Huff and Matthews may
be adversely impacted.

Daily Activity:

PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
PE Masterson(drop)/Danks-Wed
PE Danks(drop)/Nolasco-Thur

Strategy: PE stream John Danks was used for Nolasco.
PE needs W's and K's so streaming will continue to be
the strategy of choice through Saturday at the minimum.
OP has left a few AB's on the table with Loney who could
have been activated last night. OP has been hampered by
injuries to key players, most notably Hamilton while PE
Escobar missed another game this time with a jammed
shoulder. Strategy for the remainder of the week seems
to be straight forward with streaming but it's essential
to evaluate options after each night's results.

Game Keys: PE SP's Harang/Shields combined for 1 W
with 6 earned, 14 whip and 8 k's over 12.2 innings. The
struggles for Harang continued so it was Shields 7 innings
of 1 earned, 4 whip that led the way to an acceptable stat
line and the W. PE was further bolstered by 3.2 innings
with 0 runs, 0 whip and a 5 k performance from 4 closers
that included 2 saves. OP Oswalt was terrific in a loss and
joined with 2 closers for a 9 inning output of 3 earned, 8
whip and 9 k's with a save. Predictably, OP is low ERA/
WHIP heading into the midpoint of the match. Neither
offense has done much so far with every category still in
play. PE sends 3 SP's and 3 closers vs. 2 closers for OP
with PE having the potential of 4 hitters active against
the possibility of 7 active on offense for OP today. PE is
hoping that OP doesn't gain too much ground tonight in
the offensive categories. The match is much closer than
the 7-2 score in favor of PE would indicate.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
