Fantasy Player's Edge

June 12, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Francisco Liriano could be called up by the Twins in the
very near term. He's pitched extremely well for Triple
A Rochester and Gardenhire has said that he will return
to the Twins rotation when he is brought up.

Adam Wainwright is going to miss at least 3 weeks with
a tear in the middle finger on his throwing hand. He's
worth keeping on your roster until he returns.

Jair Jurrjens missed his start last night with a twisted
right ankle. He hurt the ankle on the dugout steps at
Wrigley Field and may have to be put on the DL. He's
had a few rough outings of late so a 15 day breather
might actually do him some good.

J.J. Putz left in the 9th inning of yesterday's game after
pitching to one Blue Jays batter. He has elbow soreness.
Brandon Morrow replaced Putz and picked up the save.
Move quickly to grab Morrow if you need a source for
saves.

Huston Street is dealing with a groin strain and is being
called day to day. Alan Embree or Keith Foulke would
be the logical choices to fill the closer role if Mr. Street
can't go.

Albert Pujols is projected to be out for 3 weeks at the
minimum. Ryan Garko or Ty Wigginton are probably
available free agents but replacing Pujols is very near
impossible.

Alphonso Soriano will be lost for at least 6 weeks with
a broken hand that was the result of being hit by a
pitch. Soriano was playing well so his typical production
will be difficult to assimilate from bench depth or free
agency. Try Milton Bradley, Michael Cuddyer or Chase
Headley as an offset for Soriano.

Victor Martinez left his game last night with an inflamed
elbow. He's scheduled for an MRI today.

Travis Hafner is still 10 days to 2 weeks from returning
to the Indians. He's trying to regain shoulder strength
and apparently he's progressing very slowly.

Troy Tulowitzki's rehab, on the other hand, is moving at
a rapid pace. If there are no setbacks Tulo could return
late next week.

Jeff Keppinger's return to the Reds is being delayed for
7 to 10 days. They want to be certain that the knee will
be strong enough to handle the rigors of playing every
day.

Josh Willingham played in an extended spring training
game yesterday and is off for a quick rehab assignment.
Look for the Hammer to return to the Marlins either
Sunday or Monday.

Ryan Zimmerman received bad news from his doctors.
He'll be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a strong possibility
that he might be done for the season. Zimmerman has
a significant shoulder injury.

Eric Byrnes is eligible but not ready to come off the DL.
He's recovering from small tears in each hamstring.

Moises Alou had his calf tighten up during a rain delay
and was removed from the game. He's this year's DL
"Man of the Year".

Willy Taveras is going to get the short end of a platoon
with Ryan Spilborghs. With the Rockies on the road
for interleague play he might get a few hacks at DH.

Andruw Jones took BP and is doing so well that he might
be back by the end of June vulturing AB's from Kemp,
Ethier and Pierre.

Aaron Hill is several days from a rehab assignment as
he deals with the effects of a concussion. Optimistically,
he could return at the end of next week.

Chipper Jones returned to the Braves lineup last night
going a pedestrian 1/3.

Chase Headley, a poor man's Jay Bruce, is expected to
be recalled by the Padres soon. If your broke he might
be worth your last few cents.

Interleague play begins next Friday. Plan for it as DH's
for the Yankees, Red Sox, Texas, Minnesota, Oakland
and Kansas City could miss some or all of the weekend's
action. Johnny Damon/Hideki Matsui owners may be
the most impacted by the loss of the DH. With Ortiz out
and the other clubs not having a fantasy stud at DH the
impact of mixed league play should be minimal on fantasy
offenses.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Cuddyer(drop)/Jimenez-Tue
PE Jimenez(drop)/Kuroda-Wed
PE Kuroda(drop)/Morrow-Thur
PE Casilla(drop)/Pierre-Thur

Strategy: OP's amazing offensive output has caused PE to
play for selected points. PE dropped Kuroda/Casilla to add
Brandon Morrow/Juan Pierre. PE will play conservatively
with SP's to protect ERA/WHIP. Kuroda will be benched
this evening while OP sends Scott Olsen. If Olsen is lights
out then PE still has 4 starts on the roster to counter. The
concern is with K's where PE leads by 22. With 4 starts
left OP would only have to average 5+ per start to take
control of the point if PE sits SP's the rest of the way. The
only points left in play are saves and steals where OP leads
by 3 and 2 respectively. Morrow should be the Mariners
closer over the weekend while Putz deals with elbow issues
and Pierre will spot play for Griffey as a source of steals.

Game Keys: The OP offense continues to put categories
out of reach for PE going 16/37 with 11 runs, 5 jacks and
13 rbi for the day. PE offense was simply over matched.
Even though this week's contest is only at the mid-point
OP has already secured Runs, HR's, RBI and BA. PE has
opted to play for pitching points and steals conceding the
other categories. OP is firmly in control of the game with
a 6-4 advantage.

Final Thoughts:

PE remains in 3rd place 6 points out of 1st and 1.5 out of 2nd place
heading into week 11 which is the midway mark of the 2008 Head
to Head regular season.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily. This
team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th of 12
teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We'll follow this
team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
