Roster Shuffle:
David Price, the overall #1 pick in the 2007 MLB draft, has
been promoted by the Rays to Double A Montgomery. He
will be worth a priority waiver if the Rays bring him up for
the stretch run in September.
Jeff Keppinger was activated from the DL yesterday and
immediately inserted in the Reds lineup batting 2nd. The
Reds have had 4 SS's go on the DL so Kepp's bat and glove
were much needed. He went 1/4 and is a good solution if
you're SS poor but you had better move now if he's in free
agency as he'll be snapped up quickly.
Rickie Weeks returned as well and batted leadoff for the
Brew Crew. He started right where he left off going 0/3.
Clint Barmes was activated by the Rockies.
Kaz Matsui strained a hamstring and was forced to leave
yesterday's game. He's listed as day to day.
Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar sat yesterday for the
Braves with nagging injuries. Both players were available
to pinch hit and are considered day to day. Chipper is
supposed to sit today as well while there was no further
word on Escobar's status.
Milton Bradley missed his 5th game in a row with a sore
quad. Texas will play in Houston through Thursday so
Milton will have to play the OF to get some playing time.
He has been pinch hitting.
Adrian Beltre is sitting out due to a bruised index finger
that he aggravated taking grounders during pre-game
warmups on Saturday. He was not available to pinch hit
so it might be a few days before he returns.
Luis Castillo will be out for at least a few days with a sore
quad and may end up on the DL.
Carlos Pena may rejoin the Rays at the end of the week if
all goes well in a batting practice session on Tuesday.
Edwin Encanarcion left in the 1st inning yesterday with
back spasms. His status should be available today.
Interleague play continues next week. Plan for it as DH's
for Baltimore, Seattle, Texas, Tampa Bay, Minnesota, the
Yankees, the Angels and the White Sox could miss some
or all of the early week action. Thome, Damon, Matsui
and Giambi owners and spot players Floyd, Vidro, Huff
and Matthews could be adversely impacted.
Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)
Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.
Justin Masterson- has been awesome in general and amazing
at Fenway Park in particular. He's facing the Diamondbacks
for the 1st time. 3-0, 2.59/1.07 with 18 k's in 24 frames in
Boston.
Aaron Laffey- has no history vs. the Giants. Another young
arm with an incredible appetite for home cooking. 4-2, 1.40/
.98 in 39 innings at Progressive Field.
Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)
Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.
Sean Casey- 2nd day in a row for Sean as a "Spottie".
14/36 with 6 extra base hits and 8 rbi vs. Doug Davis.
Scott Podsednik- has a nice stroke vs. Greinke but has
trouble reading him. 9/20 with a steal and 3 caught
stealing.
Start/Sit: (today)
Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.
Raul Ibanez (start)- here's a batter that Johan Santana
dreads facing. 12/30, a jack, 8 rbi and 2 steals.
Kelly Johnson (start)- has an aggressive stroke vs. Ben
Sheets. 4/12 with an extra base knock.
Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.
Normally sit these players in Roto formats only
Prince Fielder (sit)- maybe he figures out JoJo Reyes
today but so far no good. 0/5 with 2 k's.
Kevin Youkilis (sit)- has had no answer for Haren thus
far. 1/9 with 2 k's.
Studs and Duds: (a recap of yesterday's picks and pans)
John Lester (stream)- ND 7.1ip/2e/10w/3k
Manny Parra (stream)- W 5ip/3e/11w/1k
Corey Patterson (spot)- 0/4
Gabe Gross (spot)- 1/4
Ken Griffey (start)- 1/3, solo homer
Aaron Rowand (start)- 2/4, run, 2 rbi
Jeff Kent (sit)- DNP
Orlando Hudson (sit)- 0/4

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.
Daily Activity:
PE Francis(drop)/Masterson-Mon
Strategy: Jeff Francis was used for Justin Masterson in
a week where selective streaming will be deployed. OP
has only 5 SP's but they're all capable of high K, low ERA/
WHIP performances. The objective is to have an innings
advantage to secure K's while using only select streamers
to give PE a chance to take ERA/WHIP. PE will send 2
closers to join SP Francis while OP has only 1 closer active.
PE has 5 going on offense if Escobar plays with OP having
4 hitters today.
Game Keys: This was a close battle all week long with
neither squad being able to break away from the other.
PE managed to wrestle away WHIP due to OP stream
Davies allowing 8 whip in 1.1 innings. OP countered by
taking BA going a robust 10/24. PE managed to tie HR
primarily on the 3 homers by Teixeira. All other points
remained status quo. PE took the match 6-3.
Final Thoughts:
PE remains in 3rd place 3.5 points out of 1st and .5 out of
2nd place heading into a Week 13 fracas with the 1st place
team.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
