Fantasy Player's Edge

July 5, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

As reported by the Edge earlier, OF Jeff Francouer has
been demoted by the Braves to Triple A. The decision
to cut or keep him on your roster should be determined
by OF depth. If you're thin grab Chris Davis, Ryan Church
Hairston, Rowand or Hawpe and move on.

Todd Helton landed on the DL with a sore back.

Paulie "Cashews" Konerko will begin rehabbing tomorrow
and could be activated early next week.

Bobby Crosby has a sore hamstring and is day to day.

Johnny Damon injured his shoulder slamming into the
fence while trying to make a catch. He's day to day with
a contusion.

A's OF prospect Carlos Gonzalez left last night's game
with a tight right hamstring.

Brian Roberts was a late scratch with flu like symptoms.

SP Chris Young will be examined Monday and if he checks
out will have a minor league assignment. Should he pitch on
Tuesday he could start Sunday the 13th but it's more likely
that he'll be back after the All Star break.

Aaron Harang has been scratched from his start today with
forearm stiffness. He's tentatively scheduled to start on
Tuesday vs. the Cubs.

Joe Borowski has been designated for assignment by the
Indians. Masa Kobayashi is likely to get the 1st shot at
being Cleveland's closer.

Bobby Jenks is trying to avoid the DL as he's experiencing
pain under his left shoulder. He's doing better with rest and
Guillen may elect not to use him on consecutive days until
he can get a good rest at the All Star break.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Helton(drop)/Hairston-Mon
OP Kershaw(drop)/Campillo-Tue
OP Campillo(drop)/Slowey-Wed
OP Capps(drop)/Stults-Thurs

Strategy: The strategy for Saturday and Sunday is
straightforward. PE will play for SB using Hairston over
Griffey and will start 3 SP's on Sunday in an effort to
protect and secure all of the pitching points. OP has 4
starts remaining and sends Slowey to the mound tonight.
PE Harang will skip his turn today with stiffness in his
forearm. PE has K's covered so there's no need to stream
Harang's spot. PE will leave all closers active today, with
Saves already won, playing for a lucky W. Roberts missed
last night's game with the flu so PE is missing an important
speed component to the offense. It's prudent to guess that
Roberts will sit today so Hairston will shift to 2B and Griffey
will be reinserted in PE's lineup, if that's the case.

Game Keys: PE SP Weaver had a much needed solid start
going 7.1 innings allowing 2 earned on 7 whip with 6 k's while
earning a W. PE closers had 4 saves to put away the point. PE
remains in control of the remaining pitching points but only K's
are out of reach for OP. OP offense continues to dominate but
PE clings to a 4-2 lead in SB. OP has Jose Reyes which puts this
point clearly in jeopardy. The match turns on to the river with
PE having a 6-4 lead.

Final Thoughts:

PE is in 2nd place .5 point out of 1st heading into a Week
14 meeting with the 3rd place team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
