Fantasy Player's Edge

July 8, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Clay Buchholz is being recalled by the Red Sox for a start
on Friday against the Orioles. Justin Masterson is being
sent to Pawtucket to create a roster spot.

Roy Oswalt is scheduled to pitch Friday vs. Washington.

John Maine is expected to start on Thursday. He left his
last start with a cramp in his non-throwing forearm.

Erik Bedard will likely be shutdown until after the All Star
break with shoulder tightness.

Josh Johnson will make his 2008 debut vs. the Dodgers on
Thursday, less than a year after undergoing Tommy John
surgery. He's worth keeping an eye on, especially if you're
SP poor.

Jeff Francouer barely had time for a cup of coffee at Double
A Mississippi before being summoned back to the bigs by
the Braves. He went 7/13 in 3 games down under.

David Ortiz took 7 swings in BP at Fenway Park yesterday.
The word was that his 3rd swing landed in the Red Sox
bullpen. He was said to be smiling after the session and may
be able to go on a rehab assignment after the All Star break.

Ryan Church will undergo more tests on his head. He's still
in pain and nauseous but believes it's from migraines and
not related to post concussion syndrome. Stay tuned.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Joe Blanton- thoroughly disappointing this season but has a
chance to make amends at home vs. Seattle. 8-4, 3.15/1.16
in 97 innings vs. the Mariners.

Scott Olsen- has a nice track record vs. the Padres but would
be a stronger pick if the game was in Florida rather than Petco.
1-1, 2.79/1.19 with 16k's in 19 innings.

Spotties
: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Sean Casey- punchless Casey pounds Livan Hernandez. 14/28,
4 extras, a clout and 9 rbi with only 1 k.

Nomar Garciaparra- hits Tim Hudson solidly. 7/20, 2 extras and
a bomb.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

-none-

Strategy: OP Dempster's start was moved up to today so that he
can go on Sunday for the Cubs. OP has SP's Kazmir and Lester on
the hill tonight as well. PE will counter with Harang. With Dempster
getting 2 starts both teams have 8 starts on the roster. PE will play
Hairston over Griffey early in the week in an effort to add runs and
steals. Monday's action was uneventful and the current strategy is
wait, see and react.

Game Keys: PE SP Pedro Martinez was marginally effective going
5.1 innings with 2 earned on 8 whip with 6 k's to earn a W. He is a
candidate to be waived should a stream become necessary. Each
team had a save. OP has 3 SP's, 3 closers and a set up man vs. 1
SP and 5 closers for PE. Both squads should be at full strength
offensively today.

Final Thoughts
:

PE is in 1st place by .5 point over the 2nd place club and 4.5
ahead of the 3rd place team heading into a Week 15 meeting
with the 4th place team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
