Fantasy Player's Edge

July 11, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Vernon Wells was placed on the DL with a strained left
hamstring. He's going to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Originally
it was reported that Wells suffered a cramp on a stolen
base attempt. Obviously, the Blue Jays medical staff
missed this one badly.

Dan Uggla returned to the Marlins lineup going 0/3.

Justin Upton appears to be on his way to a stint on the DL
with a strained oblique.

Edgar Renteria missed yesterday's game with a hamstring
strain. It's considered mild and he's expected back today.
Check the Tigers boxscore before using him.

Richie Sexson was cut by the Mariners yesterday. If by
some remote chance he's on your roster cut him loose.

Brandon Inge was activated yesterday by the Tigers but
was not in the starting lineup.

Aaron Harang will be placed on the DL with soreness in his
forearm. His MRI came back clean so it's likely that they
will allow the Reds righty to heal completely before he
returns to the rotation.

Dustin McGowan has a torn rotator cuff and it very well
could be a season ending injury.

Eric Bedard was added to the DL with tightness in his
shoulder.

Jason Schmidt threw 59 pitches in a game at Triple A Las
Vegas. At this pace he could return to the Dodgers rotation
around the 1st of August.

Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)

Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.

Hiroki Kuroda- came off the DL and threw a 1 hitter. He's been
fantastic at home. 0-0, 3.86/.71 in 7 frames vs. the Marlins and
3-0, 2.44/.94 with 30 k's in 48 innings at Dodgers Stadium.

Scott Baker- travels to Detroit to face the Tigers. 3-3, 3.52/1.09
in 61 innings vs. Detroit and 1-1, 2.45/.77 in 22 frames at Comerica.

Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)

Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.

Mark Kotsay- runs wild on Greg Maddux. 14/39 with 7 steals.

Kevin Millar- follows the knuckler right to the bat head. 11/24,
6 extras, 3 jacks and 8 rbi with only 1 k vs. Wakefield.

Start/Sit: (today)

Guide to using bench players when matchups are favorable.

Nick Swisher (start)- likes what Millwood offers. 9/22, 5 extras,
2 jacks and 7 rbi.

Randy Winn (start)- consistent success against Jason Marquis.
7/16, 3 mults, 2 bombs, 4 rbi and a pair of stolen bases.

Guide to sit starters when matchups are unfavorable.

Normally sit these players in Roto formats only

Grady Sizemore (sit)- the Indians only consistent performer
has a tough matchup today. 0/8 with 4 k's vs. James Shields.

Jermaine Dye (sit)- should get the book on Millwood from
Swisher. 2/17 with 4 k's.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Hairston(drop)/Buchholz-Thur

Strategy: PE closer Saito, on the heals of consecutive outings,
will be benched today to create a roster opening for Buchholz
who will join Shields/Cain and 4 closers on the hill. OP counters
with Floyd/Galarraga and 4 bullpeners. Buchholz may be moved
later this evening if game results warrant additional activity for
Saturday and/or Sunday. PE would gain added flexibility if SP
Harang is put on the DL today.

Game Keys: OP offense came alive last night going 13/29 with
7 runs, 5 homers, 7 rbi and a stolen base. PE, amazingly, kept
pace off of a dismal 7/33 night that included 9 runs, 9 rbi and 2
steals. The match is extremely tight heading into the turn with
every point in play and today's activity will go a long way into
determining the outcome of this contest. PE holds a precarious
5-4 lead.

Final Thoughts:

PE is in 1st place by .5 point over the 2nd place club and 4.5
ahead of the 3rd place team heading into a Week 15 meeting
with the 4th place team.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
