Fantasy Player's Edge

July 15, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

J.J Putz threw a 30 pitch simulated game on Sunday and
is off to Peoria for a rehab assignment tonight. He's then
scheduled to wing to Tacoma for another inning of work
on Thursday or Friday before the Mariners decide on the
next step. Brandon Morrow will likely close through Sunday
or until Putz is activated.

Erik Bedard is 50/50 to make his next start on July 22nd.
That's a week from today so there is time for those odds
to improve.

Brett Myers is expected to be recalled on the 23rd for an
outing vs. the Mets. He'll have one more start at Double
A Reading before heading back to the bigs.

Todd Wellemeyer says that he's starting to get the "feel"
for pitching again after being a few starts removed from
elbow problems.

Kerry Wood's blister is expected to heal completely during
the break.

Hanley Ramirez is going to play in the All Star game so his
owners can breathe a sigh of relief.

Alphonso Soriano is slated to return to the Cubs on July 25
or 26th.

Troy Tulowitzki had the stitches removed from his hand
and is tracking to return before the end of the month.

Todd Helton is free from the lower back pain that sent him
to the DL. No timetable has been set for his return but he
should be back fairly soon.

Ryan Zimmerman could return to the Nationals on Friday
if his rehab goes according to plan. He's serviceable if you
need help at 3B, CI or Utility.

Rick Ankiel is fine after twisting an ankle awkwardly and
will be back slugging on Thursday.

Spot players Bobby Crosby and Randy Winn are due back
after the break as well.

Information should be available today on the results of the
MRI's for Takashi Saito, Yunel Escobar and Jerry Hairston.

733. That's the number of innings used that would keep you
on track to deploy maximum innings (1250) over the course
of the season in Rotisserie. A number significantly above or
below should be a call to action.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Harang(DL)/Broxton-Mon

Strategy: PE put Harang on the DL and used the roster spot for
Jonathan Broxton. This add will give PE 5 closers to employ in a
closer only strategy designed to control the points in Saves, ERA
and WHIP. OP has 3 SP's, Johan Santana, Cueto and Lohse going
on Thursday along with Sherrill. PE will counter with Cordero and
Fuentes. A closer only strategy is extremely risky in that one blow
up can cause elevated era/whip totals. OP will have 4 hitters going
on Thursday with PE, opting for Broxton, only be able to field 3 on
offense.

Final Thoughts:

PE is in 1st place by 3 points over the 2nd place club and 7 ahead
of the 3rd place team heading into a shortened Week 16 showdown
with a pitching laden OP. PE has gone 26-11-3 over the 1st 4 weeks
of the 2nd half of the season while facing the other top 3 teams in
the league.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
