Roster Shuffle:
Francisco Liriano was named International League pitcher
of the Week after throwing 13 shutout innings with 16 k's.
There's no place in the Twins rotation for him at this time,
so his owners will need to show considerable patience.
Speaking of patience, Mark Mulder made a start last night
vs. the Phillies. He was gone after 16 pitches with shoulder
pain.
Aaron Harang is scheduled for an MRI to isolate the cause
of the soreness in his right forearm. He's been dreadful for
most of the season and the forearm may provide a plausible
explanation for his ineffectiveness.
Chris Young will throw a simulated game on Friday. If all
goes well he could pitch a rehab assignment next week
and rejoin the Padres rotation after the break.
Roy Halladay's start today has been pushed back so that
he can face the Yankees tomorrow. Adjust your rotation.
Dustin McGowan has landed on the DL due to stiffness in
his right shoulder.
Brad Penny is still struggling to get back on the mound and
will try a rehab assignment after the All Star break.
J.J Putz is just about ready to return and should rejoin the
club sometime during the week after the break. Brandon
Morrow has been outstanding as his replacement but it's
likely that Putz will regain his 9th inning responsibilities
almost immediately.
Vernon Wells left last night with a cramp in his leg. He's
day to day.
Edgar Renteria strained a hamstring and will be evaluated
today. He's currently listed as day to day.
Milton Bradley was scratched last night with a balky knee.
The extent of the injury should be available today.
Ryan Zimmerman took BP 2 days in a row without feeling
any discomfort in his shoulder. He's still a couple of weeks,
at the minimum, from returning to the Nationals lineup.
Big Papi will likely rehab in Pawtucket next week and
could be back in the bigs when the Red Sox resume play
on the 18th.
Dan Uggla was available to pinch hit last night. He's day
to day.
Kaz Matsui was activated and in the Astros lineup going
2/6.
Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)
Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.
Clay Buchholz- returns to the Red Sox rotation with a favorable
opponent at home. 2-0, 0.00/.50 with 12 k's in 12 innings vs.
the Orioles and 2-0, 1.04/1.33 with 15 k's in 17 frames at
Fenway Park this year.
Glen Perkins- pitches better away from the Metrodome and
has had good success vs. the Tigers. 1-0, 2.33/1.09 with 13 k's
in 19 innings vs. Detroit.
Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)
Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.
Rich Aurilia- he's solid against Jason Marquis. 6/17 with a homer.
Aaron Miles- sees Zach Duke very well. 5/13 with an extra base hit.

but could wake up today. 13/30 with 4 mults against Buehrle.

Ryan Ludwick (sit)- on a roll again but may be derailed for
a game. 1/10 with 6 k's vs. Moyer.

the DL for a few more days. 3/30 with 9 k's vs. Greinke.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.
Daily Activity:
PE Hairston(drop)/Buchholz-Thur
Strategy: PE Hairston was used for streamer Clay Buchholz.
PE opted to stream one roster spot while retaining Martinez
until after his start on Saturday, at least. This stream is a bit
of a calculated risk in that PE has to sit a closer on Friday to
clear a roster spot for Buchholz. PE has Cain and Shields going
on Friday. Both teams lost one start with PE Harang nursing a
forearm injury and OP Lester being skipped on Sunday. PE has
5 starts remaining this week to 4 for OP. Further PE streaming
activity will be based on Friday's pitching results as OP will have
Floyd/Galarraga active. Neither club has any SP's today. OP has
9 potential starters active on offense to 8 possible hitters for PE
today.
Game Keys: PE Weaver was solid last night going 6 innings
allowing 1 earned on 9 whip with 5 k's but was denied a W
when Rodriguez had a rare blown save. PE had 4 closers see
action last night combining for 3 saves with 0 runs, 1 whip and
3 k's over 3.1 innings. Overall, PE's pitching overcame Harang's
debacle yesterday to put all pitching points back in play. The
offenses for both clubs continue to be quite offensive as both
teams wallow below the Mendoza line. All the offensive points
are up for grabs as well as we head into the mid-point of the
contest with OP leading 5-3.
Final Thoughts:
PE is in 1st place by .5 point over the 2nd place club and 4.5
ahead of the 3rd place team heading into a Week 15 meeting
with the 4th place team.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected
to follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what
might be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge
daily. This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and
drafted 7th of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late
March. We'll follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy
campaign.
