Fantasy Player's Edge

July 25, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

Milton Bradley was hit by a pitch on his forearm late
Wednesday and is day to day. Check the Rangers box
before starting him.

Jimmy Rollins was scratched yesterday for arriving
late for a crucial game against the Mets. Go figure.

David Ortiz returns to active duty today vs. the boys
from the Bronx.

Chipper Jones will be examined today hoping to avoid
a stint on the DL. Given his history it's likely he'll end
up disabled. Adjust accordingly, just in case.

Dan Uggla, mired in a 1/22 funk, was given the night off
against Carlos Zambrano. He should return today.

Spot play Mark Ellis is expected to return to the A's line
up today.

Tim Hudson says that he will make his next start as the
soreness near his elbow is feeling much better.

Francisco Liriano should be recalled by the Twins in the
next few days.

Chris Carpenter has a rehab start today which will serve
as a barometer for where he is in his recovery. There is
some banter that if all goes well he could be activated by
the Cards next week. It's more likely that he'll need one
or 2 more starts in the minors before rejoining the club.
Stay tuned.

Adam Wainwright threw a bullpen session yesterday.
No timetable has been set for his return but a best
guess has him back in the Cards rotation by early
August.

Kerry Wood was placed on the DL with a blister on his
middle finger. He has not pitched since July 11th. Due
to the 10 day backdating rule for the DL Wood would
be eligible to return on Tuesday at the earliest.

PE Correia(drop)/Werth-Wed
PE Garciaparra(drop)/Rowand-Wed
PE Rowand(drop)/Carpenter-Thur
PE Werth(drop)/Baek-Thur
PE Baek/(drop)/Pelfrey-Thur
PE Pelfrey(drop)/Bush-Fri

Strategy: PE SP stream Baek was used for SP Mike Pelfrey
when Pelfrey was listed as "probable" around noon yesterday.
Pelfrey is taking Pedro Martinez's spot in the rotation and has
a great matchup vs. the Cards. Big Mike was dropped for Dave
Bush on Saturday. PE will stream on Sunday as well looking to
secure the W point as OP has Josh Beckett going today as the
last start on the OP roster.

Game Keys: PE spot play's Werth/Rowand went a combined
3/7 with 1 run, 1 homer, 1 rbi and 1 steal to help PE take the
lead in SB and BA. OP SP's Sheets and Perez pitched well but
were unable register a W. PE SP Cain was magnificent hurling
a complete game shutout for a W allowing 4 whip and striking
out 4. OP continues to control ERA/WHIP and could wrap up
these points today with an outstanding start from Beckett. PE
could put the finishing touches on W's if Pelfrey stops the Cards
today. K's are firmly in PE's column with Saves still up for grabs
but looking like they'll fall to PE. Essentially, the pitching points
for the week could be decided today. Every offensive category
is still in play as the match heads on to the river with PE holding
a 7-3 lead.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 5.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 8 ahead of the 3rd place team after a shortened Week
16 took it's toll on all the top teams.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
