Fantasy Player's Edge

August 7, 2008

Roster Shuffle:

John Maine
threw a bullpen session and is scheduled
for a simulated game on Friday. If all goes well he'll take
a turn the following Tuesday or Wednesday.

Aaron Harang also threw a bullpen session and could
rejoin the Reds rotation on Saturday.

Joba Chamberlain was placed on the DL with a sore
shoulder.

to the DL with a strained shoulder.

The Cards are sending Adam Wainwright on a rehab
assignment that indicates that he'll return as their closer.
He'll pitch every other day for a couple of turns before
being recalled.

Eddie Guardado is officially the Rangers closer as C.J.
Wilson
was added to the DL with bone spurs in his elbow.

Chris Perez was recalled by the Cardinals ostensibly to
be a part of a bullpen by committee. He had a 1.2 inning
save last night.

Milton Bradley missed his 8th straight game but may
return to action this weekend.

Grady Sizemore had a routine day off yesterday.

B.J. Upton was benched yesterday for not playing all out
on Tuesday.

Cristian Guzman is close to returning from a bruised
thumb and should return any day so check the Nationals
box until he's penciled in.

Pudge Rodriguez was forced out of last night's game
after a home plate collision with David Murphy. Ivan
has a bruised knee and is day to day while Murphy, who
also was taken out, has a strained ligament in his right
knee and is likely to be placed on the DL.

Kevin Youkilis was hit on the hand by a pitch and was
removed as a precaution. X-rays were negative. Youk
may return on Friday when the Red Sox resume play.

Ryan Garko left yesterday's game with a leg injury.

Ryan Theriot had to leave the Cubs game with a foot
injury.

Asdrubal Cabrera twisted an ankle and had to come
out of yesterday afternoon's game in Tampa.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

OP open spot/Zito- Mon
PE Morrow(drop)/Wood(activated-DL)-Tues
PE Harang(DL)/Renteria-Wed
OP Zito(drop)/Cruz-Wed
PE Renteria(drop)/Wolf-Thur

Strategy: PE spot play Renteria was used to add SP stream
Randy Wolf for Friday. OP dropped Zito for minor league OF
phenom Nelson Cruz who's out at the moment with a sore
quad. He'll have no impact on this week's contest. OP has SP's
Hernandez/Jimenez going today vs. 4 closers for PE. Broxton
has been reserved until he pitches again. PE will use tonight's
results to determine whether to play for W by streaming this
weekend. The wildcard is Harang who could pitch on Saturday.

Game Keys: OP's offense, particularly Jhonny Peralta, keeps
raking going 9/22 with 4 runs, 1 homer and 5 rbi. Peralta went
5/5 with 2 runs, a homer and 2 rbi. PE's offense, sinking fast,
was mediocre once again going 8/32 with 5 runs and a steal
by Figgins which enabled PE to lead Runs and SB by 1. Neither
club had an active pitcher last night. Both clubs have hitters in
5 games with Holliday involved in a doubleheader for OP today.
At the midway point in the match PE holds a tenuous 5-4 lead.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 11 points over the 2nd place
club and 14.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 19.
There are only 40 points (4 weeks) left in the season so PE needs
to focus on playing consistently to assure a playoff bye.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
