Roster Shuffle:
Chipper Jones is expected to return to the Braves line
up on Friday. He's on the DL with a sore quad.
Robinson Cano took yesterday off to nurse a sore hand.
He's expected to miss today's game as well but check the
Yankees box to make certain that he's on the bench.
Ken Griffey had to leave the ChiSox game with cramping
in his right leg. He's day to day.
Jerry Hairston Jr. reinjured his hamstring on Friday and
will be out of action today as well. He may have to go on the
DL again. Corey Patterson will most likely play CF for the
Reds and could be used as a source for steals until Hairston
returns.
Torii Hunter should return to the Angels tomorrow. He is
attending his grandmother's funeral.
Todd Helton suffered another setback when he experienced
back spasms after a workout. He'll be evaluated tomorrow.
Rick Ankiel is slated to return to the Cards lineup on Tuesday.
He pinch hit last night so check the box just in case they bump
him up a day.
Francisco Liriano returns to the Twins rotation today to
face the Indians. He was lights out at Triple A Rochester.
Adam Wainwright will pitch a simulated game on Tuesday.
If all goes according to plan he'll head out for 1 or 2 minor
league starts and could return as soon as August 12th.
Streamers: (tomorrow's probable starters available as free agents)
Use these players to gain advantage in wins and strikeouts.
Matt Garza- has been really solid at Tropicana Field this year.
He's had a few rough outings vs. the Indians in the past but this
group from Cleveland is missing a lot of parts. 6-1, 2.10/1.06
with 45 k's in 64 frames at home this season.
Greg Smith- pitched well in his only appearance at the Rogers
Centre. 1-0, 1.42/1.11 in 13 innings vs. the Blue Jays.
Spotties: (tomorrow's position players available as free agents)
Use these players to fill in for injured players and on off days.
Mike Cameron- tags Arroyo. 6/11 with 2 extra base hits.
Jim Edmonds- has a lot of good AB's vs. Moehler. 13/37,
10 extras, 6 homers and 11 rbi.

PE Davis(drop)/Johnson-Tue
PE Johnson(drop)/Sanchez-Wed
PE Sanchez(drop)/Blackburn-Thur
PE Blackburn(drop)/Slowey-Fri
PE Slowey(drop)/Liriano-Sat
Strategy: OP SP's had 2 W's forcing PE to start Shields/
Liriano in an attempt to secure the category. The decision
to sit Weaver/Slowey was fortuitous as neither was able
to generate a W while allowing a combined 11 runs on 15
whip in 11 innings. The advance strategy for Week 19 will
focus on winning Saves, ERA and WHIP by using SP's and
closers early on until PE gains an advantage in those points
and then shutting down all pitching for the remainder of the
week. Week 19 OP has 17 starts on the roster forcing PE to
concede W and K. PE offense is going to have to hit much
better this week or the outcome could be lopsided in favor
of OP.
Week 19 OP is the most enigmatic of the managers in this
particular league with 11 SP's and 0 closers. The extensive
rotation features Haren, Saunders, King Felix, Carmona,
Volquez and Cook. OP offense is supercharged as well with
Holliday, Quentin, Sizemore, Morneau, Soto and a recent
acquisition via trade Josh Hamilton. Remarkably, this OP
is in 7th place 5 games out of the playoffs.
Game Keys: PE offense shut down completely going 2/31
allowing OP to regain control of BA and tie RBI with a 9/26,
6 run, 4 rbi performance. OP SP's had 2 W's to tie the point.
The match has tightened considerably heading into the last
day with PE holding a tenuous 6-2 advantage.
Final Thoughts:
PE increased the 1st place lead to 9.5 points over the 2nd place
club and 11.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 18.
There are only 50 points (5 weeks) left in the season so PE needs
to capitalize on this week's inactive opponent to further the effort
to secure a first round bye in the playoffs.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
