Roster Shuffle:
Mike Lowell sat out last night with a strained hip. He's
supposed to have had a cortisone shot so he's likely out
for a few more days. Check the box scores daily until he
returns.
Carl Crawford took the night off with a sore hamstring.
He may be out a few days so adjust accordingly.
Victor Martinez should begin a rehab assignment later
this week. The plan is to have him work out at 1B as well
as C.
Scott Rolen's ailing shoulder kept him on the bench last
night. He's day to day.
Eric Chavez will have shoulder surgery and is out for the
season.
Vernon Wells injury plagued season may begin again
at some point next week. Stay tuned.
Jerry Hairston could end up on the DL again with the
same strained hamstring of several weeks ago.
Ryan Zimmerman may avoid the DL with a bruised
right hand. The Nationals are waiting for the swelling
to subside before making a final determination.
Cristian Guzman is still sidelined with a nagging thumb
injury. There's no timetable for his return.
Brian McCann returned to the decimated Braves line
up as the cleanup hitter. He went 0/3.
Adam Jones is likely to be added to the DL as a result
of a foul ball off of his foot.
Aaron Harang had a rehab start at Triple A Louisville
yesterday going 6 shutout innings using only 69 pitches.
He would appear to be ready to return to the Reds staff.
Joba Chamberlain left last night's game with tightness
in his throwing shoulder. Details on the severity of the
injury should be available today.
Mariano Rivera should be ready for action today as the
back spasms he experienced on Sunday have subsided.
Jonathan Broxton warmed up Sunday and would have
pitched the 9th inning if needed. He had complained of arm
fatigued the day before.
Kerry Wood's activation is imminent. He'll work set up
in his first appearance and then will resume his closer role.
Eddie Kunz has been brought up by the Mets as insurance
for Billy Wagner. Kunz had 27 saves at Double A Birmingham.
If you need saves he's worth a speculative reach.

Daily Activity:
OP open spot/Zito- Mon
Strategy: OP SP onslaught continues today as Volquez/Carmona
and Pelfrey toe it up. PE has Carpenter and Harden slated as a
rebuttal. Harden has an early game so his performance may make
Carpenter's start unnecessary as PE continues a strategy of winning
ERA/WHIP. PE Cordero had a save which essentially locks up the
category.
Game Keys: PE SP Matt Cain did not accomplish the team objective
of a low era/whip outing. He went 6.2 innings allowing only 1 run but
with an elevated 10 whip. PE will send Harden and possibly Carpenter
in attempt to seal off the ERA/WHIP categories. Cordero's 2 whip, 1
inning save offers increased flexibility enabling PE to sit the closers
at any point this week. OP sends 3 SP's to the hill tonight. PE bats
were good last night going 10/24 but have been very inconsistent.
OP offense basically kept pace and had the only stolen base for the
day.
Final Thoughts:
PE increased the 1st place lead to 11 points over the 2nd place
club and 14.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 19.
There are only 40 points (4 weeks) left in the season so PE needs
to focus on playing consistently to assure a playoff bye.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
