Fantasy Player's Edge

August 13, 2008

Fantasy Football Player's Edge coming soon!!

Roster Shuffle:

Adam Wainwright
continues rehabbing at Triple
A Memphis where he went 3 innings allowing 2 runs.
He's most likely to return to the Cards as their closer.

Aaron Cook will skip his next start due to lower back
stiffness.

Tim Lincecum was removed from last night's game
after being struck on the right knee by a line drive.
The details on the severity of this injury should be made
available today.

John Maine will be activated by the Mets today. There
has been some rhetoric that he may close pending Billy
Wagner's return.

Chris Carpenter will miss his next start with a muscle
strain near his shoulder. The good news is that there is
no structural damage.

Paul Byrd was traded to the Red Sox. His value is
slightly higher with Boston as he joins the team at the
top of his game. He's 4-0, 1.24/1.28 with 12 k's in 29
innings over his last 4 starts and he's 3-1 lifetime at
Fenway Park with a 4.06/1.39 in 31 innings.

Victor Martinez could begin a rehab assignment this
weekend which could have him returning to the Indians
lineup early next week.

Alexi Casilla vows to return next week from the DL.
He was hitting .313 before being sidelined.

Hideki Matsui will try to rehab later this week and
may return to the Yankees sometime next week as a
DH.

Ryan Braun sat out again with a strained ribcage. He
is said to be feeling better although no timetable has
been set for his return.

Carlos Quentin was benched last night due to general
soreness. He had been hit by pitches in 5 consecutive
games.

Joe Mauer sat out yesterday and is questionable for
today with a stiff neck.

Carl Crawford has opted for finger surgery and is done
for the remainder of the fantasy season.

Jacoby Ellsbury was a late scratch with a bruised lower
back. He pinch hit and ran the bases so he's day to day.

Garrett Atkins has strep throat and is likely to miss a
few games. Check the Rockies box daily for his availability.

Kaz Matsui was removed from last night's game with a
sore back.

Carlos Guillen left in the 8th inning with tightness in his
back.

^ -designates an active player on today's roster.

Daily Activity:

PE Griffey(drop)/Span-Mon

Strategy: PE Harden will start today after being rained
out yesterday. PE will send a 5 closer group against OP
Torres and Gregg. PE has lost SP Carpenter's start this
week due to a muscle strain giving OP a 1 start edge on
the week. PE would have preferred a trip to the DL for
Carpenter as it would have freed up a roster spot. PE
hopes that Braun returns to action today. The passive
strategy is foreign to PE but remains the right choice
to achieving roster integrity and a 1st round bye in the
playoffs.

Game Keys: PE Harden was rained out. OP closers had
2 saves with 2 perfect innings to lead the category by 1.
Additionally, OP had the only homerun and stolen base
on the evening to lead HR and tie SB. PE offense had a
rare solid output going 11/30 but production was subpar
with 5 runs and 2 rbi. OP was 5/27 allowing PE to take
control of BA and maintain the leads in Runs/RBI. The
pitching points are all in play as PE has logged 2.1 innings
thus far to 2 frames for OP. The bothersome stat is the
2-1 lead in Saves enjoyed by OP with only 2 closers.

Final Thoughts:

PE increased the 1st place lead to 11 points over the 2nd place
club and 15.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 20.
With only 30 points (3 weeks) left in the season PE will adopt a
conservative strategy to try to assure roster integrity heading
into the bye week of the playoffs. If PE goes 10-20 during these
final 3 weeks the 3rd place team would need to go 25-4-1 to tie
for 2nd place.

The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
