Fantasy Football Player's Edge coming soon!!
Roster Shuffle:
Adam Wainwright struggled at Triple A Memphis
throwing 25 pitches allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in less
than an inning of work. He'll throw again in a couple
of days as he attempts to regain his form.
The Yankees are showing their desperation as they
are considering bringing up Phil Hughes and Carl
Pavano to augment their depleted rotation after only
one rehab start for each guy. Hughes might be worth
a flier but give him one start before using him in your
rotation.
Much to everyone's surprise Kerry Wood had another
injury this time to his back. He was unavailable to close
on Friday but was deemed ready to return on Saturday.
Jose Contreras was activated from the DL to face the
Red Sox and promptly left the game in the 2nd inning
with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Ryan Braun was removed from last night's game with
lower back tightness. The severity of the injury is not
yet known.
Carlos Lee has a broken left pinky as a result of being
hit by a pitch. He'll be sidelined 6 to 8 weeks.
Michael Young left last night's game after aggravating
a fracture of his ring finger. He intends to play today.
Orlando Hudson had an early exit when he sustained
a left wrist injury.
Hideki Matsui has intensified a running program and
could begin a rehab assignment next week.
Joey Votto was placed on bereavement leave without
a specified reason. He's eligible to return on Tuesday.
Evan Longoria sat for a 2nd game and even though he
is day to day expect the Rays to be very cautious with
their prized phenom.
Ryan Church has been cleared to resume baseball
activities and could rejoin the Mets in early September.
He could be useful for the stretch run if he regains his
stroke.
Michael Cuddyer suffered a broken foot after being
hit by a line drive running the bases in a rehab game.
He was to be recalled by the Twins this week. He is
likely out for the season.
SP's Martinez, Carmona, Verlander, Lincecum,
Marcum, Beckett, Volquez, Harden, J.Santana,
Lohse, Mussina, Oswalt, Vazquez, R. Johnson,
Kazmir, Hamels, Garland and Volstad are the likely
candidates for 2 starts this week. (SP's normally start on
every 5th day so starters on Monday/Tuesday are likely
to pitch on Saturday/Sunday respectively.)
SP stream possibilities for 2 starts this week; Karstens,
Bush, A. Sanchez, Backe and Kershaw. Probables
are chosen based on having a favorable start on Monday
or Tuesday.
901. That's the number of innings used that would
keep you on track to deploy maximum innings (1250)
over the course of the season in Rotisserie. A number
significantly above or below should be a call to action.

PE Morrow(drop)/Wood(activated-DL)-Tues
PE Harang(DL)/Renteria-Wed
OP Zito(drop)/Cruz-Wed
PE Renteria(drop)/Wolf-Thur
PE Wolf(drop)/Harang(act/DL)-Fri
Strategy: Each team has 3 SP's active on the roster with
OP featuring Saunders/Parra/Pelfrey. Based on Liriano's
W PE will sit all pitching today. Although still vulnerable
in WHIP PE is in a position where OP will need at least
a 1.00 whip over a minimum of 18 innings to press for
the point. PE has SP Carpenter in the late game vs. the
Cubs, if needed, should OP's 3 SP's come up WHIP low.
PE offense is likely to be shorthanded today as OF Braun
left last night's contest with back spasms.
Week 20 OP is led on offense by Albert Pujols. Granderson,
Uggla, Carlos Guillen and Dunn head up an eclectic cast of
supporting batsmen. Jake Peavy is the ace of OP's staff and
is augmented by Jair Jurrjens, Garza, Greinke, Baker, Maddux
and Moyer. Kevin Gregg and Salomon Torres are the closers.
OP has 7 starts on the roster this week but has 2 open roster
spots after dropping 3 players who were on the major league's
DL.
Game Keys: PE SP Liriano and 2 closers were off their game
allowing 5 runs on 16 whip in 8 innings with Liriano earning a
W. OP Haren/Cook were actually worse in tandem combining
to yield 12 earned on 23 whip in 11 frames. PE has opened an
insurmountable lead in W's and is safely ahead in ERA with
WHIP in play. OP has 3 SP's going today vs. an inactive pitching
roster, by design, for PE. Chone Figgins swiped a pair of bases
for PE to help lead the SB category by 1. OP has control of HR/
RBI/BA while PE maintains an edge in Runs. PE takes a 6-4
advantage into today's finale.
Final Thoughts:
PE increased the 1st place lead to 11 points over the 2nd place
club and 14.5 ahead of the 3rd place team heading into Week 19.
There are only 40 points (4 weeks) left in the season so PE needs
to focus on playing consistently to assure a playoff bye.
The Player's Edge participates in many leagues but elected to
follow a team in a Public League to better approximate what might
be faced by a wide majority of players that use the Edge daily.
This team plays in a standard 5x5 scoring format and drafted 7th
of 12 teams in a 21 round on-line live event in late March. We will
follow this team throughout the entire 2008 fantasy campaign.
All Done!
